Many thanks to Mayor Andy Schor for personally stopping by today and presenting our little restaurant with an official proclamation making this day, September 18th, Soup Spoon Cafe Day.

We are honored to receive such a recognition, and will never take it for granted as we continue to strive to provide quality food and service here on Lansing’s Eastside.

And if you’re in our neck of the woods this evening, please stop by for a patio celebration of everyone who has supported us these last two decades. Things kick off at 6pm.

Friends and longtime supporters of the Soup Spoon Café,

We’re coming up on our 20-year anniversary!

Twenty years ago, on September 18, I took a huge chance on Lansing. We had a one-year-old baby, could barely make ends meet and were living paycheck to paycheck. I quit my steady job as a chef and took a leap of faith to open my dream — the Spoon.

And here we are, 20 years later.

That only happened because of you.

This community has given so much to us over the years that we could never say thank you loudly enough. We’ve celebrated birthdays, engagements, anniversaries and graduations together. We’ve mourned losses together. We’ve watched families grow, kids grow up and friendships form. And through some of the roughest times, we’ve held each other up.

Thank you, Lansing — and especially Eastside Lansing.

We love being here. We love this community. We love you. And we are deeply grateful that you’ve allowed us to do what we love for 20 years.

We’re going to try for another 20!

So, in appreciation and celebration, next week we’re giving away two of our most popular items from the last 20 years — Seafood Chowder and Bread Pudding — for $1 each.

No strings. No gimmicks. Just a dollar. Enjoy it with our thanks.

Blackrocks is taking over the taps starting tonight at The Soup Spoon! We will be featuring seven different varieties of Marquette-made brews, including pub-only exclusives, for $5 until the kegs run dry.
