We made it!! 61 beautiful (if not a bit warm) miles!

Chris had a smashing birthday yesterday, and whilst we should have been celebrating the history of this carefully curated path....we had a brilliant pub crawl, celebrating the wonderful establishments on the way. (Namely Cheshire Cheese, Old Hall hotel, Travellers Rest, Bike and Boot)

Today we walked over Totley Tunnel, because apparently it's not open to pedestrians... Even on days like this?!? We would have paid good money.

The Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet is an absolute must, entry by donation and plenty of local history to learn about... Unfortunately, it's very close to The Waggon and Horses, which has better beer.

The path took us right by The Sheaf View which will always be Jo's spiritual home... Lovely to see old faces.

The highlight though, was being reunited with Hoddles The Dog, who has been working away. (He got a gig in Sheffield, doing security patrol in Grandma's garden and testing out Grump's new air conditioning unit. The rate was two sausages a day + overtime, so he couldn't have turned it down)

We're very happy to be back in Edale for a much needed wash and to sleep in an actual bed!

The is an excellent, very carefully planned route, which we recommend you do in sections, so you can fully appreciate in the history it was designed around.... It's also a very good pub crawl (but don't go to New Mills on a Tuesday!)

We can also announce.... πŸ₯ πŸ₯ πŸ₯ That we've raised a whopping Β£68.37 for Edale Station Friends!

"We've sunbathed on Kinder, been burnt to a cinder and many more things we can tell" 🎡🎢🎡

Today's easy 7 miler turned into an absolute slog in this heat! It was made easier by a very friendly horse, a much needed dip in the river Noe at the bottom of Jacob's Ladder and the most incredibly refreshing pint of cider at the legendary The Old Nags Head Edale!

We're currently tucked up in our tent at the fabulous Newfold Farm Campsite... Because who wants to go home half way through a holiday?! Tomorrow we're meandering our way to Hathersage, it's Chris' birthday, so there might be a pub or two on the way ... Who knows! Chris says don't worry about getting him a birthday pint, just chuck a quid (or two) in the Edale Station Friends charity box on the bar at The Rambler! Cheers all! πŸ’šπŸ’œπŸ’š

We're on track! We've made it to one of our very favourite pubs, The Old Hall, Chinley before last orders! (the trail conveniently passes their front door!)

Today we have...

Walked 18 (ish) miles of towpath
Visited three pubs
Foraged wild raspberries
Been chased by TWO gangs of Canada geese
Patted 9 dogs and one cat
Walked across England's highest aquaduct

Tent is pitched at the wonderful Chinley campsite. Early night ahead of a day of being cooked on Kinder Scout tomorrow!

We're having the best time, but it's all to raise money for Edale Station Friends ... So pop to the Rambler Inn, put some pennies in the jar and use it as an excuse to have a very lovely pint!

.... And we're off! Chris and I are walking along The Steel Cotton Rail Trail to raise funds for the wonderful Edale Station Friends! All being well, we'll be passing through Edale on Wednesday en route to Sheffield.

There's a charity pot on the bar... Please give what you can! (Bar staff will happily do cashback! πŸ˜‰)

Our beautiful railway station means so much to us...

For many of our visitors, it's their first impression of England's most magical village, the first steps of their epic journey to Kirk Yetholm, their first breaths of fresh air having been in a city for months.

On a more personal note, it's where half of a village we'd only just called home turned up to surprise us by waving us off to our wedding with confetti and flowers...

It's no accident that it is such a beautiful station... There's a team of dedicated Edalians behind it! They're out in all weather, planting, painting, planning...

We'd love to give something back, but I've not got green fingers and Chris is a menace with a paint brush, so instead, we'll be walking all 61 miles of the newly mapped Steel Cotton Rail Trail between Manchester and Sheffield, in the hope that you'll chuck a few of your spare pennies to The Edale Station Friends, so they can continue to make our station one of the prettiest and most accessible in the country.

Keep an eye out for our Just Giving page... In the meantime, there's a jar behind the bar!

Keep an eye out for Sheffield and District CAMRA's June edition of the Beer Matters magazine...

It's got all of the information you need to plan a Peak District pub tour by bus!

Look at how many wonderful pubs there are... Perhaps you might need a couple of days out to tick them all off!

QUIZFORMATION... This month's quiz will be held on Wednesday 27th May, a week later than scheduled. Which will give Neil more time to think of some baffling questions...
Back to the third Wednesday of the month from June!
