Josef Sheekey was a seafood stall holder who first opened an oyster bar on St Martin’s Court in 1896. The restaurant was restored to its former glory in 1998, its four inter-connecting rooms hung with original pictures of actors from throughout the 20th century that reflect its central position in the theatre world. Both casts and audiences flock here for immaculately sourced and perfectly prepare

d seafood – dressed crab, shellfish and the famous fish pie – and to continue the evening’s entertainment. In 2008, it was joined by the more informal J Sheekey Oyster Bar next door, whose horseshoe-shaped central dining bar and photographs of 21st-century theatrical luminaries by Alison Jackson echo the original restaurant, as does its popularity.

For J.Sheekey, evolution is found in the rhythm of the West End itself, a restaurant shaped by theatreland’s energy, Soho’s history, and the slightly unruly spirit that has always defined London at its most alive. The print, spanning centuries of character, style, and identity, reflects the ever-changing cast of London itself, and the generations of actors, artists, rebels, and cultural figures who have passed through J.Sheekey’s doors over the last 130 years. 
 
More than an anniversary, the partnership is a celebration of London and the people who continue to shape it.

Sheekey Secrets: In Conversation with Roger Allam
 
Join us on Monday 22nd June, from 7pm for the return of Sheekey Secrets. For this special edition, Roger Allam takes centre stage for a live, in-conversation evening, offering a rare insight into a distinguished career spanning theatre, television and film.
 
Tickets are priced at £170 per person and include a Tanqueray No.TEN cocktail on arrival, a three-course meal, a carafe of wine per guest, and tea and coffee to finish.

The evening is held in collaboration with , supporting theatre workers in need, with a donation made to this vital cause.
