At CUPE 606, we believe every child should be heard, especially when it comes to play.

We’re proud to support that belief by sponsoring communication boards like this one at Fairview Elementary, to be placed on the playground for easy access.

This will allow those who communicate differently, to actively share their voice, wants, or needs when it comes to creating play and building relationships.

Because EVERYONE should have a voice.
Because EVERYONE should be included in play.

Community Matters — and CUPE 606 plays the long game.

We’ve already given out 120+ tickets to 30+ Night Owls games, turning the whole season into a celebration of our members.

Are we done?
Nope.

We’ve rounded the bases, and now we’re casually wandering onto the football field eyeing to score a few touchdowns too.

This week CUPE 606 had the privilege of attending the CUPE BC Convention, held in Victoria, ensuring CUPE 606's voice was heard on important topics, including Violence in the Workplace, especially in the K-12 work sector.

We are honoured to represent CUPE 606 members and continue to do the work, that works for us all, bringing important issues to the front line, the public and government.

Take me out to the ball game!

CUPE 606 has season tickets to all the regular season home games & we want YOU to go!

If you would be interested in a block of 4 tickets, for a regular season home game simply follow the directions below for your chance to win.

Email CUPE 606 - [email protected] & provide the following:

- full name (first & last) & the email to contact you if you win.
- list what dates you prefer (please provide a minimum of 2 preferred dates - or if you aren't picky - tell us that too!)
- be sure that your entry is in to us no later than May 15th
- if you are chosen, pick up your tickets during office hours (Mon. thru Thurs. 8am - 2pm)
- tickets MUST BE PICKED UP NO LATER than the DAY PRIOR to game or the THURSDAY PRIOR TO WEEKEND (not available for pick up on Fridays.)

Winners will be drawn & notified during the week of May 17th (23rd)

CUPE FOR KIDS

Here at CUPE 606, we believe in giving back to the community, and so we kicked off CUPE FOR KIDS again this year!

29 lucky classrooms were selected to have their buses paid, for a fieldtrip within the Nanaimo Ladysmith School District region.

All successful applicants will be contacted by email by CUPE 606.

Didn't get in this year?

Don't worry - we'll be doing it all again next fall.

Let's further education!

CUPE Local 606 Bursary Application 2026

CUPE Local 606 has four bursaries of$ 1,000.00 to award in 2026 and these include the Linda McCourt Memorial Bursary.

These bursaries are awarded to children or grandchildren of Local 606 active members.

The deadline for submissions is May 29th, 2026.

Consideration for these bursaries include the following criteria:
Parent or grandparent must be a current dues paying member of CUPE Local 606.

*The applicant must be under 25 years of age.
*The applicant must be enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies at a College, University or Trade School.

It is the applicant's responsibility to include the following documents with their application:

1) Letter of introduction telling us about yourself, your extra-curricular interests and hobbies.

2) Proof of enrollment for current year from a university, college or trades training centre.

3) Transcript of high school grades or proof of credits for graduation. This is not required for mature students over the age of 21 who have not been enrolled in a full-time formal education program for a minimum of three years.

4) Letter of reference from Principal, Counsellor or Supervisor

Only chosen applicants will be contacted by telephone in July 2026.

CUPE 606 is all about community.

Just a reminder that CUPE 606 is getting the buses rolling by providing bus costs for the few lucky Elementary classes chosen.

If you haven't entered, you have until Friday, April 24th to do so.
See below for details, forms can be found at each elementary school's office.

Winners will be announced later the following week.

details:
CUPE is supporting our community by providing the cost of school district bus transportation for an elementary school fieldtrip.

Who should apply: Elementary school teachers who wish to take their class on a fieldtrip within the school district region between May 4st and June 12th , 2026.

Busing only costs will be provided for the fieldtrip and the successful applicant(s) are responsible for booking the bus. If you have already booked your fieldtrip bus, you are still eligible to apply.

The following criteria must be met to be considered:
• Fieldtrip must include at least one class (max of 70 students, grade K-4 OR 50 students, grades 4-7
• destination must be within the school district region, Lantzville to Ladysmith
• fieldtrip must take place prior to June 12th, 2026

Please complete and return the form to CUPE 606 office by Friday, April 24th, 2026

Applications may be submitted via one of the following ways:
