Simonholt is very pleased to announce that The Roy Styffe Quartet will be playing at the Simonholt Restaurant, Aug. 2nd. 7:30pm. Undoubtedly, this band contains some of North America's best players; the extraordinary Roy Styffe (saxes), the amazing Rob Cheramy (guitar), the exceptional Steve Wallace (bass) and the stick perfect Kelby McNayr (drums). We are so excited about this band that we are recording the show with a view to an live album release.

Regarded by many as one of the finest improvisers in Canada. Multi-instrumentalist (saxophone/clarinet/flute) Roy Styffe has been wowing audiences for over 30 years. He has played with the greatest names in Canadian jazz and continues to push the envelope of excellence in the world of improvisation.

Roy has been active as a leader, performer and composer for the past twenty five years. Some notable highlights have been performing with Ed Bickert, Kenny Wheeler, Daniel Lapp, Tony Genge, Pat Collins, John McLeod, Neil Swainson, Phil Dwyer, Pat LaBarbara, Phil Woods, Renee Rosnes, Hal McKusick and touring with Don Thompson’s Banff Alumni Jazz Ensemble. In 1986 Roy played with The Temptations for Expo ’86, and in 1988 he played with Rob McConnell in his big band at the Calgary Winter Olympics.

performances. Ben Jackson was introduced in 2026 and has filled that role with exceptional vigor.

Simonholt Restaurant is very pleased to announce that The exceptionally talented Miranda Sage Quartet will be playing for us, July 12th. 7:300pm. Miranda will be touring her latest album release.

Miranda's Quartet features the Award winning Mike Allen (tnr. sax), Dr. Tony Genge (keys) and Ken Lister (bass)
Miranda studied jazz vocals with Jordan, Jay Clayton, Louise Rose and seminal British jazz singer Norma Winstone who praises Miranda’s singing on her latest album as “very flexible and natural.”

Born in England and raised in Victoria, B.C. in a musical family that includes uncle Nick Newall of the Kinks, Miranda was taught piano by her mother before she started school. Sage played lute, harp, clarinet and alto sax in school then took up guitar and a professional career including tours of Europe, England and the U.S. in her 20’s.

She has performed with Hugh Fraser’s Big Band, the Port Townsend Jazz Festival Big Band, and Swiftsure Big Band. Sage’s vocals were also showcased at Scotland’s Mid Argyle Annual Gala, Isle of Wight Jazz Divas Festival, Alberta’s Beneath the Arches concert series, multiple appearances at the TOSH concert series in Qualicum Beach, and Victoria International Jazz Festival. Miranda and Don Thompson toured throughout western Canada. Her recorded performances were also featured on 16 compilation discs released in Taiwan and Singapore.
