Friends, we are sad to report that The Phoenix will not be reopening as planned. We announced last year that we'd be back and took several steps towards that end, but ultimately decided to simplify and just focus our efforts on growing the Joe Momma's concept in the Tulsa area. Edit: This doesn’t mean we like Joe Momma’s more or think it’s better or whatever. It just means Joe Momma’s is open and the Phoenix isn’t so we’re doing our best to focus on what we can control. It’s okay to be upset about losing The Phoenix without blaming Joe Momma’s. We wanted to do both. Don’t have enough money.
When we opened the Phoenix in The Pearl District nearly five years ago, we wanted to create a café that would serve as a place for people to just be with one another, to talk, to do homework, to curl up with a good book, to create, to be inspired. In so many ways, we have been privileged to be that place over the years.
We also had hopes that our little spot would play a role in bringing new life to a wonderful neighborhood. We wanted to see the empty spaces along 6th street filled up with shops and restaurants and small local businesses. We hoped more people would move into the neighborhood to renovate homes and establish a strong community just outside of downtown. And while we were early in the process, we were by no means the first. So many wonderful people have worked to make The Pearl District what it is today. They laid the groundwork for us back then and we hope we've been a part of laying some more for all of the exciting things coming next.
As much as we've loved being a part of Tulsa's restaurant scene and a part of a growing Pearl District, our team has decided that it's time for us to move on and focus efforts elsewhere. In parting, we thought we'd share one of the cool parts of the remodel we were excited to show off - this mural by Clean Hands on our wall. Pretty cool, right?
We thank you all for the business, the great memories, and for being a part of our story. We hope we've been a memorable part of yours.
Love,
Your friends at The Phoenix
