Our "seasonal pie" list is changing with the beginning of September. We are going from coconut cream to caramel crisp apple pie. It's an apple pie with a bunch of sugary caramel in it, basically. Toffee crunch in the crust to compliment the apples.

In St. Louis, fall is September, October and November. It's not technically correct, but if football is on the TV, it's fall, dammit! And you gotta eat apple pie and drink beer while watching football! Get you a big old burger with mushrooms and Mayfair dressing with a cold draft beer and finish it off with a slice of sweet apple pie (and maybe another beer). Life is good!

Today is a beautiful Saturday! We have bison stew as our soup and BBQ pork steak sandwiches as our special.

The bison stew came from a desire to have bison on the menu. The bison market is a bit tough to calculate these days, and the price of serving a burger on the regular was cost prohibitive. So, we decided upon a monthly special, which is also cost prohibitive, but it's only once a month, so we are sticking with it.

This bison stew is a sort of campfire soup. The bison is not too tough to chew and does give that authentic bison flavor and feel. We use big chunks of squash and spinach to turn this into a veritable health food soup! Come get your engine burning with this campfire bison stew!

Fish Friday! Fresh rye bread made at Pete's Italian Bakery this morning! Hot and crispy fries! Fresh lemons and homemade tartar sauce. Malt vinegar on every table!

Come try the salad, now with added romaine lettuce, but the same other than that. We are sure that 96% of you will love it!

Okay, so what happened on Wednesday?

At 11:01, my head cook told me that our hood wasn't working. It was hard to tell that it wasn't working strictly by sound. It was only when we threw a burger on and the smoke didn't get sucked up that we realized that we didn't have a damn hood. Ugh! It was a tough situation.

So, we made the tough call to stay open for lunch even though we couldn't sell burgers or lamb chops. That is a pretty big part of what we do every day, with the Wednesday lamb chop special really taking off recently. People were coming in and leaving when they couldn't get a burger or lamb chops. It wasn't pretty.

We called Thomas Hoffman Air Conditioning and Heating (https://tomhoffmannairconditioning.com/). They were the fourth company that we tried as we needed someone to come out right away. We had never worked with them previously. They got out here by 2pm and by 5pm they had replaced the burned-out motor in the hood, and we were up and running for dinner just in time. The young man who showed up was professional as could be and did a great job. We are incredibly grateful to them for their service!

So, we are up and running as normal today! Come in and have a burger and/or Bangers & Mash. We have our grill ready to roll and we could really use your business to help us recover from yesterday.

A Menu Change at O’Connell’s!

After sixty-four years of serving an iceberg lettuce salad, we are now adding romaine. Yes, that’s right. Our salads are now an iceberg/romaine mix.
