One of the best things that came from Tallula’s was our relationship with Saw Naing, who started as Sous Chef when we opened in 2017 and went on to be our Executive Chef. He is now co-owner and Chef of The Dutchess in Ojai.

So tomorrow, The First 20 continues. Saw Naing returns to cook some beloved Tallula’s classics, with a few new twists. Pastry chef Laurel Almerinda joins to make tres leches, and Justin Dicken is behind the bar pouring agave cocktails to pair.

Night two of The First 20 brought EVAN FUNKE back to the kitchen he ran from 2008 to 2012, long before Felix and Mother Wolf. Sfincione, tagliatelle alla bolognese, lasagna with artichokes and porcini, and former somm Jenna Isaac pouring Red Car with Richard Crowell in the house. Tomorrow night, The First 20 celebration continues with Evan Funke.

Evan came to Rustic Canyon in 2008, fresh from training in Bologna, and ran our kitchen until 2012. Since then he’s built Felix, Mother Wolf and Funke, and he’s stayed part of the family the whole way. For one night, he’s back on Wilshire, cooking a menu rooted in the Italy he trained in, from Sicilian focaccia to a classic bolognese.

Jenna Isaac returns to pour, with Richard and Allison Crowell of Red Car W**e in the house.
