Nine feet tall, and the flowers were replaced every morning.

For Chandon's 45th anniversary we built a photo call wall: the mark laser-cut in gold, fresh flowers and living greenery grown right into it, the whole thing set inside a massive gold frame. It stood for three days of press and publicity at the Yountville winery, and the greenery was replenished each day, so the last guest photographed the same wall the first one did.

There is a version of this evening that suits a room of twenty-five-year-olds and a version that suits a boardroom, and they are not remotely the same night.

So before we quote anything, we sit down with you and work through it properly — who is coming, what they should walk away holding, where those photographs are going to live afterwards, and what your brand needs them to say.

We can tell you our attendants are photographers. It lands better from a guest.

Read that quote again and notice what is missing from it. No mention of a machine. No mention of a backdrop. It is a description of a person reading a room, holding a queue together, and knowing when to talk someone into a better shot.

That is the whole job. The hardware is the easy part.

Save this if you are still comparing vendors on print quality alone.

The best planners hand us a corner, not a wall.

Give an activation a real place in the floorplan and it stops being furniture. Guests find it between courses, come back after the toasts, and the pictures get looser every hour.

Nothing here was directed. Props were within reach and two people used them the way people do.

A vendor's reputation is borrowed. It belongs to whoever recommended them.

When a planner puts a name in front of a client, they are spending their own credibility to do it. That is why the bar for a repeat recommendation is so much higher than the bar for a first one, and why we treat a planner's second call as the real verdict on the first job.

Black and white is not a filter here. It is the whole point.

Color changes every time the DJ changes the lights. Strip it out and what is left is the thing you actually came for. A jaw. A shoulder. Two people who like each other.

We shoot these the way we shoot a portrait session. Tight, lit properly, no backdrop doing the talking.

A sequin wall photographs like weather.

Most backdrops go flat the moment a flash hits them. This one catches light in a thousand small places, so there is movement in the frame before anyone in it moves.

We convert everything to black and white. It takes the room's colour temperature out of the argument and leaves you with the people, which is the only part anyone looks at twice.

Nobody remembers the step-and-repeat.

Rock the V brought the wine country crowd to The Estate Yountville for the V Foundation's cancer research weekend. A room of people who give generously and get photographed constantly. Our job was to hand them the one photo they would actually keep.

We staff every activation with working photographers, not booth operators. That is the difference between a guest queuing for a novelty and a guest getting a portrait.
