n a thin, crispy crust. Jessica Hazard, a New Jersey native & owner, has always had a love for NY style pizza. NY Pie was opened with the intention of bringing the experience of NY style pizza to Nashville. Important to Jess is preserving the dying art of hand-tossed pizza. The ability to hand toss dough that is consistently thin and round, with the perfect “handle” is harder than it looks. NY Pie chefs train for months to become expert pizza makers! People often ask – what’s the secret? Is it in the water? Here’s the answer – no. You need to “know your dough.” The recipe is not static & changes with humidity and temperatures. So, our expert dough makers flex the recipe accordingly and regularly adjust based on look and feel. Our dough makers prepare multiple batches of dough in the stores daily - 50 lbs. of flour at a time. While the secret is not necessarily in the water, the trick (competitors pay attention!) is filtering the water. And for the rest of the secret -- we only use Grande cheese – the absolute best (& not inexpensive) cheese on the market, fresh vegetables, and high-quality meats. From dough to sauce, marinara, garlic knots, salad dressings, and chocolate chip cookies – with few exceptions – we believe strongly in making it from scratch. Also important is that NY Pie is a family business. Jess’s eldest daughter Holly is juggling college and some of the business aspects of the pizzeria & aspires to open her own restaurant in New York. Naomi, Jess’s youngest daughter, aspires to own her own bakery and will soon be making her signature desserts for all three locations. Her specialty is Crème Brulé. Today, she can be found working at the front counter and sharing her beautiful personality with the customers.
