All good things must come to an end. MAFIAoZA’s 12th South is closing down. Opening in June of 2003, we served (and transformed) the 12th South neighborhood for more than two decades. For all your patronage and support over the years, thank you Nashville, from the bottom of our hearts.
It’s hard to say goodbye, especially after 21 years. For a restaurant that feels like a lifetime. Like multiple lifetimes actually. How many generations of employees & regulars have passed through? How many friendships, relationships & families have spawned from just one restaurant? Too many to count.
We wish we could continue to build that legacy; we’re proud of our impact and do not give up easily. The path to success that we needed to take after the pandemic looks so much clearer in hindsight. The new way to operate in the service industry is no longer service-focused. Higher prices, lower staff, automated systems, etc. took away from our identity. We decided to hold onto the things that made us uniquely us. If that was our downfall, so be it. We did not compromise who we are.
Our last day of business will (probably) be October 6th. Until then, tell Maf’s stories and share Maf’s pictures. I like to believe we made a unique stamp on Nashville that few really understood. If you were one of those few, come celebrate with us for these last few weeks. Let’s party like it’s 2003.
