We seek to foster a sense of connectedness among the individuals, families, organizations, and businesses of central Arkansas by offering a focal point for sustainable activities in the area. We have delicious sandwiches, soups, salads, burgers, brats, fries, and homemade baked goods that feature fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers, as well as locally roasted coffees and the bes

t of Arkansas beer. We also host a range of activities from workshops, classes, and speakers to music events and art openings. Through food, education, and community, The Root Cafe is striving to make Little Rock a better place to live by helping to create a more just, sustainable, and delicious food system for central Arkansas.

Another has come your way! 👨‍🌾 Join us in saying hello to Old River Farms out of Cabot, one of the newer farms we’ve partnered with for bacon and pork butts since August of 2025.

Johnny and Kirstin Moore started Old River Farms with a simple belief: Arkansas land should feed Arkansas people. After years spent working in ecological landscape design and studying regenerative agriculture in Colorado, they felt called back home to Arkansas to raise their family and start farming in a way that cares for both the land and the animals.

Their pigs are rotationally grazed through woods and pasture, helping restore the soil naturally while producing high quality pork raised with care. They focus on regional flavor, healthier soil, and food grown on a human scale instead of for mass production. Even down to the feed, they choose certified organic, non-GMO grains as part of their commitment to healthier farming practices.

One thing that really stuck with us was their belief that local food matters because it reconnects communities to the land around them. That’s exactly why The Root is proud to partner with someone like Old River Farms!

You can find Old River Farms at the West Little Rock Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8am - noon, online at oldriverfarms.com, here on Facebook at Old River Farms, or on Instagram at 🐖🌱

: Today we’d like to introduce you to Rabbit Ridge Farms of Bee Branch, Arkansas! Since 2016, they’ve been supplying The Root with pasture raised pork and chicken, and we love that they’re part of our local food community.

Rabbit Ridge is a regenerative farm built around doing things the right way. Caring for the land, raising animals responsibly, and helping people reconnect with where their food comes from.

From their farm store to restaurant partnerships to hosting folks out on the farm for brunch, dinners, and events, they’ve created a place where people can really experience local agriculture firsthand and get to know the people behind their food.

Small farms rely on community support to keep doing what they love, and we’re grateful to work alongside folks who care so deeply about Arkansas agriculture!

Welcome to our first of May! Today, we’d like to introduce you to Natural State Microgreens of Scott, Arkansas. For the past 3 years, Stephanie has been supplying us with the microgreens you see in the finishing of a lot of our dishes. Those little greens might be small, but they bring a ton of local flavor and freshness to the plate! 🌿🌱🥬

Stephanie started the farm in 2019 after spending 27 years as a cardiac nurse. She wanted to shift her focus toward helping people stay healthy, not just managing illness. And that’s where microgreens came in. These young vegetable seedlings are packed with nutrients and are a simple way to add something really good to your food.

You can also find her at the Hillcrest Farmers Market on Saturday mornings or over at The Green Corner Store on Main. Beyond the farm, she’s also a board certified lifestyle medicine practitioner, helping people make changes through plant based nutrition and everyday habits.

…and a fun connection to add 👀 Her son, Ralph, works with us in the kitchen of The Root!

To learn more about Stephanie and her greens, visit her page here on Facebook, at Instagram , YouTube at naturalstateplantbased6454, or online at naturalstateplantbased.com! 👋
