π» AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM BREAKWALL HIDEOUT π»
We're taking a little winter break! β€οΈ
First and foremost, we want to thank the Kewaunee community for the incredible welcome you've given us since opening Breakwall Hideout!
When we first opened our doors, we never imagined just how much this community would embrace our little bar and restaurant. What was supposed to be a soft opening turned into one very LONG soft opening! π
And we mean that in the best possible way!
When we first started, we assumed Breakwall Hideout would be a seasonal operation. But as we got toward the end of the season, everything was still going so strong, and our staff was doing such an incredible job maintaining the business without us that we thought, βYou know what? We're just going to run it as long as we possibly can, and maybe we can make it through the winter.β
We've been going, going, going since day one, and quite honestly, we've been so busy keeping up that we haven't had the opportunity to finish everything we originally planned.
With winter approaching, business naturally slowing down, and several things happening all at once, we've decided it's the right time to return to our original plan and temporarily close Breakwall Hideout for the winter season.
Here's what's going on behind the scenes.
πΆ Staffing & Family: We have key employees taking maternity leave, and we're also looking to hire and train a new cook at both locations. With our own children back in school, Christina and I simply can't spend as much time in Kewaunee as we did throughout the summer. That has put a tremendous amount of responsibility on our employees, many of whom travel nearly an hour each way to work. They've worked incredibly hard, and we recognize that we need to make things easier and more manageable for everyone.
π Kitchen & Operations: One thing many people probably don't realize is just how much work has gone into keeping Breakwall supplied. We've spent countless days loading food inventory at Hooligans in Howards Grove, packing coolers, and hauling everything up to Kewaunee. It's worked, but it's not an efficient long-term solution. We need to develop better systems so our staff can focus on what matters most: preparing great food and taking care of our customers.
πΊ A Better Draft B**r System: Right now, our draft b**r comes from a small kegerator. That means constantly hauling six-barrel kegs up and down the stairs, which isn't exactly easy on our bartenders! We're currently getting estimates on upgrading to a proper tap system that will allow us to offer more draft b**r selections at better prices!
π¨ Finishing What We Started: We still have decorating to finish, our exterior sign to get installed, and plenty of improvements we want to make before reopening.
β€οΈ Quality Comes First: Our customers deserve great food, great service, and a welcoming place to spend their time. We want to make sure we have the staffing, equipment, and systems in place to consistently deliver that experience.
So, how long will we be closed?
That's the one question we can't answer just yet.
We fully intend to be back open for spring, but there's a very real possibility we could reopen sooner. It will depend on staffing, training, and how quickly we can complete these projects over the next couple of months.
This is NOT goodbye, Kewaunee. It's simply us taking the time to finish what we started.
We are incredibly grateful for every customer who walked through our doors, every person who shared our posts, every familiar face who came back week after week, and every employee who helped us get this far.
You gave Breakwall Hideout an amazing first season, and we want to make sure we're building something that will be here for years to come.
Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and most importantly, your support.
We'll see you again soon, Kewaunee! π»β€οΈ
