Fall in Full Cool Carbureted Swing!
There’s something about a crisp fall morning. For some unknown reason, the roads look better, the hot coffee tastes better and the driving gloves just feel right. Carburetors pine for these days, and they make you well aware of it.
Cooler air is denser and carries more oxygen, which a carbureted engine loves. The engine feels a little more awake, throttle response a little crisper, and did you ever notice that the suspension even seems happier? Of course, carburetors can also remind you that they’re carburetors—choke out, a little patience while everything warms up—but that’s all part of the almost spiritual ritual.

A Little Time Away Has a Way of Giving You Ideas...
This is Monica somewhere on a back road in Kansas a few days ago.
I love the pigtails, btw.
Where were we going?
No idea.
And apparently neither one of us was particularly concerned about it.
That's one of the things we love about being out here. You see a road, you take it. You find a little town you've never been to. You stop somewhere because it looks interesting. You eat something. You meet somebody. You keep going.
That's a pretty good day in our world.
We've also had a little time away from the stores, which is only possible because of the great people taking care of everything back home.
Thank you. Seriously.
And somewhere along these Kansas back roads, Monica and I started talking about 109 and all the things we still want to do.
Which led to a pretty simple question:
How can we make your life better?
Maybe it's dinner tonight. A bottle to bring to a friend's house. A platter when you don't have time to make one. A great sandwich. Finding a new cheese or w**e. Packing a picnic. Or just stopping in, talking for a few minutes and leaving a little happier.
Maybe just a 109 hug.
But what else?
Something you'd like us to carry? Something you'd like us to make? More tastings? Classes? Dinners? Road trips? Something we haven't even thought of?
Tell us. We really want to know.

September 11th
I took this photograph yesterday while Monica, Bandit and I were driving around Kansas, where we're visiting family for a nice visit as Mildred likes to say.
I wasn't thinking about September 11th when I took it. We were just driving along and something about the scene made us stop.
The sunflowers. The old windmill. The open fields and endless sky.
It felt peaceful. Simple. Kind.
And then I woke up this morning and realized why I wanted to share it today.

Labor Day weekend isn't just about the food and w**e around here. We're busy getting the cars ready too.
This year Alfa Romeo is the featured marque at the Lime Rock Park Historic Festival, and we'll be there.
Both the Alfa and the Lancia will be in the parade and then shown at Sunday in the Park Concours. We've been getting them ready, putting some miles on them and, of course, finding a few more things that need attention along the way.
That's old cars.
We hope to see some of you up there.
If you're heading to Lime Rock for the weekend, stop by 109 in Kent along the way. Check out the WKNDDRVR gallery, have some lunch or grab some cheese, sandwiches and picnic goodies for the weekend. We're just a short drive away—and it's a pretty good drive.
There's also lots happening with our friends at Petrolicious. Look for our upcoming article and the short film we recently did with them. We're looking forward to finally sharing both.
So yes, we're getting ready for Labor Day too.
