As a reminder, in December the Town went out to bid for curbside collection services and Riverside Disposal was the low bidder at $210,000 (compared to the current cost of $154,511). However, Riverside Disposal notified us earlier this month that they were withdrawing their bid largely due to manpower constraints. We contacted the second-place bidder, Somerset Disposal, who confirmed they can provide the service but at the cost of $226,500 with weekly trash pickup and bi-weekly recycling pickup.

At the April 28th town meeting, voters approved two questions related to curbside pickup that were based on the original bid from Riverside Disposal: $200,000 for trash pickup and $10,000 for recycling pickup. These funds can be used toward the service by Somerset Disposal. However, an additional $16,500 is needed to secure the contract to start July 1st.

The Select Board has scheduled a special town meeting to address this. To ensure service will be available July 1st, the vote will be held as an open town meeting (in-person voting) on Monday, May 11th at 6:00 p.m. at the Jay Town Office. To be clear, these additional funds must be approved by the voters to continue curbside pickup services starting July 1st. If the article fails, there will be no curbside pickup beginning July 1st.
