Born in Italy. Made in Chicago. 🍕🇮🇹🍝

In 1981, on Columbus Day, a little Italian grocery store from the Northwest Side took a chance and moved into a brand new high-rise at 30 East Huron. People called it a pioneering venture. We called it home.

Over four decades later, that corner became our neighborhood, and our neighborhood became Chicago's. Founder Anthony Spatara's vision is still what guides every sandwich we build and every espresso we pull today.

45 years in, we're just getting started. This week, we're looking back at where it all began. Swipe through for a piece of our story.

1981: a little Italian grocery store from the Northwest Side moved downtown and never looked back.

45 years later, we're still family run, still serving the city that became our home. This is where Café L'Appetito started. 🇮🇹🏙️

Today, we want to take a moment to celebrate someone very special—our beloved Nonna. She was the most incredible cook and baker, whose delicious recipes brought joy to everyone around her. Some of our favorite dishes were her Lasagna, Pasta al Forno, Eggplant Parmigiana, Crostada and her special Christmas cookies. We miss her so much, but her spirit is always with us.

Happy heavenly birthday, Nonna. ❤️

What are some of your favorite family recipes?
