Hello hello!! How about an update on what's happened since we closed. Chef Maggie O'Brien is the Pastry Chef at La Sardine and Le Bouchon. What fantastic restaurants. The team she works with is amazingly talented which means the food is outstanding. We highly recommend it! Her desserts fit right into their french cuisine.
I'm back in the corporate world working full-time.
The original plan was to open Velvet Dessert Patisserie. A small shop featuring Chef Maggie's delicious pastries. When you have an SBA loan (Small Business Association), you have a window of opportunity to move from one business into another. We started looking for locations when my mom, Maggie's gramma, needed our attention. So we put everything on hold and shifted our focus. Unfortunately, during that time, the business window of opportunity closed. But fortunately, we were privileged to have the family opportunity to be with my mom during her final journey.
So why an update now? Today? Because it's Small Business Saturday! Another shop, just down the street from us, announced they are shuttering their doors as well. Bar Pastoral has been gracing the Lakeview neighborhood for 15 years. I am not privy to the details for Ken and Greg's decision, but I can make some fairly good assumptions based on our experience. I know Mariano's has a great cheese department. I know the new Taco Bell has a cantina. I know that Amazon delivers things directly to your door.
Shopping local requires more thought and energy, but small businesses can't survive without that effort. So when you crave mexican food, consider Buena Vista or El Nuevo. When you want a great book, head over to Unabridged Bookstore and get a book AND a great experience. Need a bottle of wine, try the new BottlesUp - awesome new woman owned wine shop - gotta love that!
Although we're not in our shop to wish you a happy holiday this year, know that we remain grateful for the 4 years we had. Please shop local as much as you can and have a very happy and healthy holiday!
