We are a small but busy little cafe and are part of the Riverside Drive Marina community. We share a building with Waterman's World which sells paddle boards and accessories. The cafe is located right on the Hatea River and Whangarei's Loop Walk. We have free parking available at the front of Riverside Drive Marina or next to Riverside Park. We have lots of yummy drink options, Little Island ice-blocks and ice-cream tubs and cabinet food available 7 days a week, including most public holidays. We do not have an onsite kitchen, so our food is limited to cabinet food at this time. We look forward to seeing you soon.

To the wonderful Kafe community!

We’re incredibly excited to finally share that we are the new owners of Kafé!

Taking on a place that means so much to the local community is something we feel incredibly lucky and grateful to be a part of. We know Kafé is so much more than coffee and food — it’s the familiar faces, celebrations, conversations and quiet moments by the river that make people’s day that little bit more special.

While there are exciting things to come, we want you to know that the things that make Kafé special aren’t going anywhere. The wonderful team, the great coffee, the warm welcome, and most importantly the sense of community will remain at the heart of everything we do.

We’re looking forward to getting to know all of you, hearing your stories, learning your usual orders 😉 and becoming part of the Kafé community ourselves.

We want to say thank you to Steve and Eleanor for creating something truly special, and we feel privileged to be carrying it forward.

So whether you’ve been coming in for years or you’re yet to walk through our doors, we’d love to see you. Come say hello, grab a coffee, have a chat, and join us for the next chapter of Kafé.

EARLY CLOSE TOMORROW - 1:30pm (Monday 14 September)

Wow, what a week! Thank you for all your heartwarming messages on our last post and all the visits this week, we really are feeling the love and so much appreciate those kind words!!

Tomorrow is our last day of trade and we will be closing early to deep clean the cafe…

…but before signing off, I would like to acknowledge the support we have received along the way;

- the Kafe team, it has been a pleasure to work with this hard working group!

- my mother, Lynn Harris (pictured below), coffee quality control, baby wrangler, head gardener, delivery driver and our biggest cheer leader, we couldn’t have done it without your support!

- Rob and team from Northland Hospitality (providing the best coffee beans, Ultura organic) thank you for stopping by whenever we had coffee dramas!

- the local suppliers, Sunrise Bananas, for supplying us frozen bananas grown in Whangarei, all year round!

- Julie Urbahn for supplying the free doggie treats! 🐶

- T from Te Patisserie supplying amazing gluten free food, including the soups!

That is just to mention a few and I’m sorry if I have missed anyone out but I think it is now time to sign off and say, see ya later! It’s been a pleasure. 🙏

To our incredible Kafe family,

After four years of early morning starts, great coffee and great conversations, the time has come for me to share some big news…

Kafé will soon be passing into new hands!

This decision hasn’t been made lightly, Kafé has been so much more than a business to me and my family. It’s been a place of community, day after day - the regulars who became friends, the birthdays, the catch-ups, the quiet mornings watching the river go by. You all have made Kafé the community that it is and for that, I will always be deeply grateful. We’re incredibly grateful that we got to be part of your lives, sharing in some of the highlights and lowlights of life, for a little while.

The new owners are excited and committed to everything that makes Kafé special. The waterfront, the coffee, the team and the warm welcome you’ve always received, that’s not going anywhere.

To every single person who has walked through our doors, pulled up a chair or simply made Kafé part of your routine — thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It has been an honour to serve this community. We’ll be around over the next week as we work through the handover, so feel free to come and say hello and goodbye and most importantly, have one more coffee with us. 😉

🍂❄️ Welcome, Winter! ❄️🍂

While some people see shorter days and cooler mornings, we see something different…

We see steaming cups of coffee warming cold hands
We see warm scones, yummy baked muffins, and sweet treats paired perfectly with a hot coffee.
We see cosy catch-ups, slower moments, and an excuse to wear your favourite comfy jersey

Winter isn’t something to get through, it’s something to enjoy.

As the season changes, the riverside takes on a beauty all of its own. Crisp mornings, clear skies, and a hot coffee in hand make winter one of the most peaceful times to slow down and enjoy the view.

Whether you’re stopping by for your morning coffee, a catch-up with friends, or a sweet treat, we’d love to be part of your winter routine.

👑 We’re Taking a Royal Day Off 👑

Kafé will be CLOSED on Monday for the King’s Birthday public holiday. Whether you’re spending the day relaxing, exploring Northland, or catching up with friends and whānau, we hope you have a fantastic long weekend.

We’ll be back brewing your favourite coffees and serving up smiles when we reopen.
