Such a well-deserved win for Pinja ☕️🏆
She brought such calm confidence, skill, and consistency to the competition floor — and represented All You Knead so incredibly well throughout the day.

As All You Knead’s coffee supplier, we’re so excited to support her on the journey to Nationals in September 🔥

We are so proud one of our talented baristas won the Northland regional barista competition! Congratulations to Pinja and the team for all the hard work and dedication ☺️💚 Thanks also to all the people involved in putting on a great event and for supporting us from day 1

Never competed before? You’re not alone—and this is for you.

If you’ve been curious about entering the Northland Barista Open but felt unsure or a bit intimidated, we’re running two workshops to help make that first step easier.

Led by NZSCA Educator Wayne Burrows, these sessions are designed to guide you through how competitions work, what judges are looking for, and how to approach your routine with confidence.

This isn’t about being the “best” barista — it’s about giving it a go, learning something new, and being part of something fun with the community.

Big thanks to Boring Oat Milk for getting in behind the New Zealand Specialty Coffee Association Barista Open 🙌

This is exactly the kind of support that makes it easier for more baristas to step up and give it a go.

👉 Thinking about entering? Here’s your nudge:

FREE oat milk to practise with when you sign up in time
A great excuse to ask your café to cover your entry fee (it’s a small investment in your skills 👀)
A fun, fast-paced comp that’s way more accessible than the traditional format

If you’re making great coffee every day — why not put yourself out there?

📍 We’ve got a regional event right here in Northland (Whangārei), so no need to travel far.
🏆 Winner goes through to the Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Championship

Tag your barista. Back your staff. Or sign yourself up.

Let’s get some strong Northland representation on the stage 💪☕

We’re the official plant milk sponsor of NZSCA’s Barista Open. Which is nice.

If you make coffee look professional, this one’s for you.

The Barista Open is a fast, regional, head-to-head competition series designed to be more accessible, more watchable, and a bit less intimidating than the usual format.

It’s happening across the motu, so there’s a decent chance one is near you.

You’ll be making espresso, milk, and oat milk drinks under pressure, in front of judges and others who care deeply about crema. The winner gets a paid entry into the Meadow Fresh New Zealand Barista Championship, which is fairly serious.

If that sounds like your idea of a good time, sign up for your region via the link in bio.

Palmerston North — register by 8 April to receive a carton of Boring® Barista.

Christchurch, Queenstown, Whangārei, Wellington, and Auckland — register by 26 April to receive a carton of Boring® Barista.

We’re proud to be hosting the Northland round of the Barista Open 2026 ☕🔥

If you’ve ever thought about competing — or just want to understand what it’s all about — this is your moment.

The team at NZSCA are running a FREE online workshop to walk you through everything you need to know:
✔️ How the competition works
✔️ What judges are looking for
✔️ Tips to help you feel confident on the day

Whether you’re already signed up or just curious, this is the perfect place to start.

👉 Check out the details and tune in here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1FMGifk76z/

We’ll also be announcing dates soon for FREE, hands-on workshops in Whangārei and Kerikeri — a great chance to get behind the machine, ask questions, and build confidence ahead of comp day.

We’re working alongside some incredible Northland coffee folk to make this comp as accessible and supportive as possible — and we’d love to see a strong local line-up on stage 💪

Northland heats: Sunday 17th May at Sabio Coffee
Let’s do this.

Competition can feel like a lot. So before The Barista Open kicks off this year, we’re hosting an online workshop to break it all down. Covering the format, the rounds, what the judges are actually looking for, and a great opportunity for any curious questions to be answered.
If you’ve been on the fence about competing, this one’s for you. It’s free of charge, and open to everyone!
