Kick off your weekend tonight as Crystal Palace take on Manchester City at 8pm.

Tomorrow brings more top-flight football, with Liverpool hosting Nottingham Forest at 3pm – the perfect excuse for a lunch and a pint – before Tottenham Hotspur welcome Newcastle United at 5:30pm.

The action continues on Sunday with Premier League football from 2pm right through to 6:30pm, rounding off the weekend perfectly before the new week begins.

The Beeswing in East Cowton is hosting its 13th ‘Glastonbury’ festival to raise money for end of life care at a nearby hospital.

Newly married couple Gareth and Jamie Furness have take the over The Bay Horse Inn in Pickering. 🔔

The pub has received a £400,000 investment and Gareth says it has been very well received by locals. 😃

“We are seeing more locals returning to the pub, faces that haven't been seen here for many years and we are seeing them on a regular basis... The refurb has really put The Bay Horse Inn back on the map and firmly at the heart of the Pickering community.” ❤️

The last two weeks’ inspirational double Grand Idea event winners show how integral pubs are to their communities. Congratulations to:

🏆 The Duke of Cumberland, Kendal. The team raised a staggering £3,750 for Anthony Nolan Stem Cell research through Sam Fest. The event was held in memory of local resident Sam Roberts, who sadly passed away from stem cell cancer just days before his wedding. They hosted live music all day, complemented by stalls selling sweets and candyfloss. Guests also enjoyed a darts competition, as Sam was an avid darts player.

🏆 The Cricketers Team, Gillingham, also arranged a charity day. This time it was for a children’s cancer charity. It was a true family event with a bouncy castle, raffle, games, refreshments, stalls and live music from the Jaywalkers rock and pop band. Together they raised an incredible £4,414 for My Shining Star Children’s Cancer Charity.

🏆 The Hen House, Cannock, shared another emotive story. A local, Keith’s father, sadly passed away from Motor Neurone Disease. He asked our MPs to arrange a raffle to raise money for the charity. They turned it into community event, timing it to coincide with the JD Hoe Down, payday weekend and their anniversary. The event supported Motor Neurone Disease charities, exceeded fundraising targets and helped strengthen local connections.

🏆 The Woodlands, St Helens, hosted a sponsored walk, family entertainment and other fundraising activities. The community came together to raise £1,300 for Prostate Cancer UK.

These pubs show what it means to do well by doing good.

Football well and truly returns this week, with action from the UEFA Super Cup, Sky Bet Championship and FA Community Shield all to look forward to.

PSG take on Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday at 8pm, before the football season proper gets underway on Friday evening as Wolverhampton Wanderers host Blackburn Rovers in the EFL Championship, also at 8pm.

There is also Championship action to look forward to, with Burnley taking on West Ham on Sunday at 4pm.

The big event of the weekend sees the first trophy of the season up for grabs, as Arsenal take on Manchester City in the FA Community Shield on Sunday at 3pm.

For pubs in the north, there is also a strong midweek opportunity as Manchester United face Leeds United in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday at 7:30pm.

Football aside, in cricket, action from The Hundred continues with another packed schedule and double-headers running throughout the week. Finals day takes place at Lord’s on Sunday, with the women’s final scheduled for 2:15pm and the men’s final scheduled for 6pm.

Action from the Betfred Super League also continues, with a couple of cracking ties across the weekend. On Thursday at 8pm, Leeds Rhinos take on Leigh Leopards as Leeds look to cement their position as league leaders. Then on Saturday at 5:30pm, Wakefield Trinity host St Helens in a must-win game for Saints.

Looking ahead to next week, the Premier League gets underway on Friday 21st at 8pm as Arsenal host Coventry in the first game of the new season. On Sunday 23rd at 4:30pm, Newcastle United take on Liverpool in another standout fixture as the season kicks off with a bang.

As everyone absolutely loved our club/disco night during folk week we would like to announce we will be turning The Balfour into a night club for one night only every month.

Called The Balfour presents Carniage

This will be the last Friday every month

Entry will be £5 before 11pm and then £7 after 11pm all entries get a free shot at the bar with there first drink (ticket will be given to you for this)
