Right… before gets his hands on this one… Yes.
We lost. But also…
We may have just played the greatest game of Cooper Cup cricket Robertsbridge has ever witnessed (lol).
One run.
ONE. RUN.
Right down to the final ball. You genuinely couldn’t have scripted it better (unless you’d scripted us winning, obviously).
Massive congratulations to Pink Pony Club, and especially to the lovely Kate, who had the honour (or blame, depending who you ask 🍻) of scoring the winning run.

As for us… Where do we start?
Ned, all of 12 years old, has played every single game and, let’s be honest, has quietly become one of the stars of the tournament. Today he was bowling, batting and then casually running out a grown man with a rocket of a throw to the stumps like he’d been doing it for years.

Ben, at just 12 too, looked like he’d forgotten he was supposed to be one of the kids and instead turned up as a seasoned pro in the first two games, and we missed him today.

Then there were the rest of us reprobate adults… providing an equal mix of moments of absolute brilliance and complete calamity. As is tradition. 😂
But that’s the thing…
This is what the Cooper Cup is all about. Winning is great. Losing by one run on the last ball while the whole boundary is packed with friends, families, kids running around, everyone cheering every run, laughing at every disaster and celebrating every wicket… That’s even better.

Community.
Friendly rivalry.
Summer evenings.
And, of course, someone breaking a bone.

🏆 This year’s “Its not Really Broken, Broken Bone Award™” goes to Matt Swaine, taking over the title from Nick, who can finally retire his ‘I broke my rib for this team’ routine. We admire the commitment… although next year we’d quite like everyone to remain in one piece. 😂

Thanks to everyone who came to support us, and to everyone who’s made this year’s Cooper Cup such a brilliant laugh.

We’ll let tell the official story… but ours is that, somehow, losing has never felt so much like winning. ❤️🏏

We’ve received a stern warning from the rather Dashing Nick DB…
Apparently we’ve been “trumpeting our own success” on social media and, as everyone knows, pride comes before a fall.
Fair enough.

Unfortunately, hidden amongst his reports were some equally balanced observations, such as “the team of a generation,” “the finest collection of pint-pourers ever assembled,” and “quite simply the ones to beat.”

(We’re paraphrasing. Probably.)

Look, when your previous best Cooper Cup campaign was something like one win in nine, can you really blame us for getting a little carried away after a couple of victories?
Have we accidentally assembled the dream team?
Or are we about to be brought crashing back to earth by the mighty Pink Pony Club?

Only one way to find out…

🏏 The George vs Pink Pony Club
📍 Tonight
🍺 Beer flowing.
🍔 Food available from the Bonfire Society BBQ.
🎭 Egos potentially about to receive a much-needed reality check.

Come down and see whether Nick was right… or whether next week’s report contains even more completely fabricated compliments about us. 😏

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
It’s Sunday lunches with the family, watching England with your mates, a quiet pint after work, birthday celebrations, first dates, walkers stopping for lunch, dogs under the table, and the occasional customer who only came in for “one”…
The best pubs aren’t just bars… they’re part of the community. ❤️🍻

🎉 It’s FriYAY. It’s payday. The sun’s (mostly) behaving…

…but it’s also a very sad day at The George. 💔

Today we say goodbye to our lovely Mollie, who’s cooked her last breakfast with us. The staff are officially in mourning, and we can only imagine the heartbreak Marilyn Knight is feeling too as she has consistently maintained that Mollie is quite simply the greatest breakfast chef to ever grace a frying pan. 😂🍳

Thank you, Mollie, for all the laughs, the brilliant breakfasts, and everything you’ve done for us. We’ll miss you loads and wish you all the very best in your next adventure. ❤️

Now, who’s making breakfast on Monday then…? 👀😂

28/07/2026

🏏 Shhhhh… don’t tell anyone… it’s late… we’ve somehow won TWO in a row. 🤫😂

✅ Darvell’s.
✅ Dirty Habits.

So… can we make it THREE?

Have we accidentally stumbled across the dream team? Has the race for the wooden spoon taken an unexpected turn? Or are we about to come crashing back down to earth? 😅

Only one way to find out… next Friday!

And remember… keep it quiet. You know we don’t like the attention. 😉
