A well wisher Pam had provided tubs of flowers for the front onto Causeway Lane.
It’s all go this week as the fitting out is moving on a pace. Thanks to our Methodist Circuit Properties Officer Phil Stanier for keeping us up to date. A big thanks to a team of people who really are cracking on including:

You may have noticed that our Reverend Ann has not been seen ‘on the tools’ this week.
Well friends, Revd Ann hasn’t been slacking. She’s taken a few days off to join two Christian friends on the Camino Pilgrim Trail in northern Spain and Portugal.
The two friends Ruth and Ann have done the many hundreds of kilometres on the pilgrim trail and Revd Ann joined them for the last week to arrive today at the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela in northern Portugal.
No worries Well friends, Revd Ann will be back at the weekend, no doubt driving things forward towards the official opening of The Well on the 7th October.

🎉 Exciting Updates at The Well! 🎉
Things are moving fast at The Well on Causeway Lane! Our kitchen and toilet fitters have taken over, and internal studded walls are officially going up to create our new kitchen and restroom spaces. 🏗️✨
Here’s a quick report at what’s happening behind the scenes from Methodist Church Property Officer Phil Stainer.
🔹 Corridor & Restrooms: The rear corridor is getting its finishing touches with paint, varnish, and sealant. Each restroom will feature wide 900mm doors, and one will feature a dedicated front section to house our washing machine.
🔹 Kitchen Area: The kitchen layout is framed and ready for the cooker and cabinets to be installed!
🔹 Utility Details: A fire-rated door cupboard at the end of the corridor will safely house our hot water cylinder.
Mark your calendars! We are gearing up for our Official Opening on October 7th! Stay tuned—more exciting details are coming very soon as The Well gears up to be a warm, welcoming space for people in Matlock and surrounding communities. 🗓️✨

EXCITEMENT BUILDS AS OPENING DAY APPROACHES👏👏
There is a noticeable shift in the air at Causeway Lane this week—the empty "hollow" echo is almost completely gone! The transformation from a construction zone to a warm, welcoming community space has taken a massive leap forward with the arrival of our kitchen cabinets and several beautiful pieces of recycled furniture.
Through the generosity of closing churches, we have been able to give dedicated pieces of sanctuary furniture a second life. Notably, a lovely altar table has been placed thoughtfully in front of our freshly painted white feature wall. Looking through the central window, you will also spot a magnificent recycled wooden cross, framed perfectly by newly fitted white vertical blinds.

🧑🏼‍🍳🧑🏼‍🍳A really big issue this last week is going out to advert for two catering posts for The Well contributing to it becoming a warm and welcoming place with multi-use facilities, combining worship areas with coffee shop, co-working zones, and community services through local outreach.

😁👍Exciting Progress at The Well, Matlock: Formal Opening Set for October 7th
Preparations are in full swing at Causeway Lane as The Well gears up to welcome the Matlock community this autumn. Recent weeks have seen major strides inside the venue, with Reverend Ann and volunteer John hard at work painting 🖌️the interior window frames and putting the finishing touches on the new floor.🖌️
Beyond the paintwork, key infrastructure is rapidly falling into place:
🪑Sustainably Furnished: Property Officer Phil has been sourcing and relocating quality, usable furniture from recently closed churches, giving these pieces new life within The Well.
Kitchen & Amenities: Cabinets for both the kitchen and restrooms are officially ordered, with installation dates scheduled.
🧑‍🍳🧑‍🍳Team Expansion: Recruitment is currently underway for a Catering Supervisor and Catering Assistant to ensure visitors enjoy fresh refreshments alongside a warm welcome.

Exciting progress is happening at The Well! 🎨✨
Update 8:
It’s fair to say The Well on Causeway Lane was literally ‘floored’ this weekend! Reverend Ann and two fantastic volunteers used twenty litres of grey/blue paint to get the 150-square-metre concrete floor sealed and ready.
Community spirit is already thriving. Eight residents from the Riber View flats above popped in to chat about the progress—and one resident, Paul, even rolled up his sleeves! He helped Revd Ann clear the old sales advertisements off the windows facing Causeway Lane and Hall Leys Park, giving everyone a clear view of the work inside.
With the floor done, we are officially ready for the next stage of the fit-out.
🗓️ Save the Date: Mark October 7th in your diary for the grand opening! We can't wait to welcome Matlock folk to do ‘church’ a little differently.

🌱 Big things are happening at The Well!
Tuesday was a double celebration for us: the first day of Autumn and the start of the new Methodist year! To make the day even more special, we welcomed Rosie Goddon-Smith, our new ‘People New Places’ pioneer worker.
Both Rosie and The Well represent exciting new chapters created by The Methodist Church following the closure of a number of local churches.

The Well building Update
Good News - Derbyshire Dales council confirm we can install the ventilation ducting, which will allow us to progress this work, when the appliances arrive later in September.

🥾 The Well Update #5: Trail Walk Slows Well Progress! 🥾
Exciting things are taking shape at Causeway Lane, Matlock, as we get closer to bringing local faith, community support, and a welcoming social hub together under one roof. Mark your calendars—we are officially opening on 7th October 2026! 🎉
Notice things quietening down on-site over the next couple of weeks? There's a good reason! Our project lead, Reverend Ann Anderson, is swapping her hard hat for hiking boots to trek 100km along the famous Camino Pilgrimage Trail in Northern Spain. 🇪🇸✨
Here is a quick look at what’s happening:
📍 The Destination: Trekking toward the historic Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, resting place of St James the Apostle.
🛏️ The Journey: Embracing new accommodations, sharing local meals, and walking alongside fellow pilgrims from around the world.
💡 The Vision: Bringing back the core Camino values—friendship, courage, and shared discovery—to help shape the heart and culture of The Well.
Rest assured, the build will be back at full speed soon, enriched by this amazing journey! 🛠️☕
