Home is a space that benefits our community, the local residents of Earlsfield. We want to show a community-minded spirit in practice and support other local development initiatives. The coffee shop and multi-use community space is a place that is open to all, equipping, empowering and encouraging our local community to explore and develop its potential. As well as being a warm and welcoming cafe, we offers events, courses and workshops that include: creative arts, life skills, health & wellbeing and friendship.

We are fully committed to all the requirements of nationally recognised standards of social enterprise – specifically, being self-sustaining and committed to reinvesting back into the space and the community.

Volunteers are a key part of Home Cafe, we simply couldn’t operate without them. We are so grateful to the many people who support us - financially, growing our veg, and giving us their time.

Consideration

“Consideration embodies the fundamental principle of treating other people like you want to be treated.”

Consideration is central to how Home Community Cafe meets people. It’s an active stance deliberately taken to bring care, compassion and welcome to those that come through the door.

But it also runs through all aspects of the business, encompassing a desire for fairness, care for the planet and for the communities that produce the food and drinks served at the cafe.

- The use of playfulness or humour as a means of changing the status quo.

Fun is one of our key values and is woven through all that we do. For Home Cafe fun is a vital ingredient within the team, but it also spills out into the life of the cafe. It’s an antidote to some of the hard stuff but it is also an invitation to others to join in a community that celebrates and is joyful, even in the face of difficulties.
 
“We need to not forget to have fun. We deal with some difficult stuff and stressful situations – work can be quite serious, laughter is how we lighten things .”

We don’t hesitate to make use of people’s unique talents

When we started looking at our values, there was a lot of discussion over the words “Inclusivity” and
“Diversity”.

Inclusivity was chosen because it can contain the key aspects of diversity that are important.

A focus on inclusivity at Home Cafe enables us to welcome diverse individuals and look for ways to draw them into our community, sharing skills, learning from each other and helping people find their way of belonging and contributing.

But it also has a wider meaning for us - it’s about a belief that a good community is diverse and has space for everyone, regardless of background, race, nationality and ability.

So, inclusivity is also a driver to keep the doors open, to keep reaching out into the wider community and to find those who haven’t yet found a place of belonging.

This year we really want you to share with you more about why we do what we do - our values and what we’re passionate about.

We’re more than just a coffee shop.

At the core of our values is the practice of radical hospitality

In the wider context, hospitality has become synonymous with a service culture (the hospitality industry). But what Home Cafe means by hospitality is deeper – it’s about an attitude of warm welcome and inclusion and a strong desire to show value and worth to individuals in even the slightest interactions:
 
“We are properly reclaiming radical hospitality – offering more than you get at other high street coffee shops. True hospitality – giving your guests exactly what they need in that exact moment. We do that every day.”
 
“Everything we do is about hospitality – breaking bread around the table - from serving a customer in a transactional way to running a community meal – everything is done around the table. We are launching our Chatty Cafe next week!

Our Chatty Cafe table will be place where you can sit and talk to others, make new friends and have engaging conversations!

Our hope is that it will a space for intentional togetherness, connection and meaningful interaction. Bringing people together across all ages and backgrounds!

So as you may know, our boiler is not very well 😞 - it is being fixed within the next week!

However, we have these amazing temporary infrared heaters that are keeping us warm, so we are still able to be open!

What else can we do to keep warm in this cold?

👉 come knit a hat with us at our weekly knitting group!

👉 seated exercises in the morning (over 60’s only - but sure they wouldn’t mind some gatecrashers 🤣)

👉 we have 2 soups to choose from!

👉 eat a hot dish!

It may be cold, but there will always be a warm at Home Cafe ###

We are excited about this years Makers Market! Come down on the 29th November 9.30-3.30pm to get all Christmas shopping done! We have some great sellers this year - all tagged above - check their social outs!
There will be wreath making on offer, cards, gifts, ceramics, Christmas cakes and bakes, art and prints, jewellery, badges and SO much more!
And Home Cafe will be open all day for all your refreshment needs!
