A very special event took place in Earlsfield on Tuesday evening to mark the 60th birthday of your local Indian & Bangladeshi restaurant Nazmin's – one of Wandsworth's oldest businesses!

Located on Garratt Lane, Nazmin's has been serving delicious food to the people of Wandsworth since 1966 – and owner Mayon Miah celebrated this incredible milestone by inviting many of his longest-serving customers to enjoy a specially-devised menu, free-flowing champagne, and wonderful speeches from Nazmin Choudhury (pictured – who the restaurant was originally named after), Guest of Honour the Mayor of Wandsworth, and Mayon himself!

Nazmin's was first established in 1966 by founder Mr Choudhury, who arrived in London from Bangladesh in his early 20s with only a small bag of personal possessions, naming the restaurant after his daughter, Nazmin. In 1992, Mayon – then just 17 – joined the business as a waiter, training under Mr Choudhury and eventually becoming his chosen successor. Under his leadership, Nazmin's has flourished, earning multiple accolades including "Best Eatery" at the Wandsworth Business Awards and a recent shortlisting for Best Independent Hospitality Business 2026.

Mayon tells us:

"I wanted to put on a special evening to say thank you to those who have stood by us and shown such incredible loyalty over the 30 years I've been running the business – as well as to mark the amazing 60th birthday of Nazmin's!

"One of the most rewarding aspects of running Nazmin's for over 30 years has been growing alongside our customers. I've had the privilege of watching couples who first dined with us in the 1990s – when I was just 17 – go on to build families of their own. Today, many return with their children and even grandchildren, continuing a tradition that spans generations. Even those who've moved away, elsewhere in the country or abroad, often make a point of visiting when they're back.

"Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we owe much of our success to their continued support – including through the difficult post-pandemic years. Together, we've built not just a business, but a lasting legacy."

For nearly 60 years, Nazmin’s has proudly served our community with freshly prepared Indian cuisine. Since 1966, we’ve built our reputation on quality food and great customer service.

Over the last few years, we’ve noticed a growing problem with third-party delivery platforms such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Just Eat.

Too often, customers receive:

* Cold food
* Spilled curries
* Broken poppadoms
* Damaged packaging

Unfortunately, the restaurant is often blamed for these issues, even though they happen after the food has left our kitchen. To make matters worse, these platforms frequently refund customers or penalise restaurants without properly investigating what happened, while also charging businesses very high commission fees.
