🚗💨 CAR RALLY CHAOS! 💨🚗

Well… what a day! Eleven fearless teams set off into the wilds of Wensleydale armed with nothing but a route sheet, a questionable sense of direction and a healthy dose of optimism.
Before anyone could even hit t'road, they had to prove their driving skills by tackling a manoeuvre while balancing a beaker of water outside the car. Some were smoother than butter on a crumpet… others looked like they’d never seen a steering wheel before! 🤣

The challenges didn’t get any easier. Teams had to return with items beginning with different letters of the alphabet. We never imagined we’d be judging roadkill… but here we are! 🤦‍♀️ Safe to say that particular entry earned top marks for sheer Yorkshire ingenuity. 😂

Another task was to snap a photo with an animal, with bonus points for finding an eagle. One team clearly took that challenge seriously… can you spot our feathered friend in the photos? 🦅👀

There were plenty of wrong turns, laughs, a bit of friendly cheating accusations (all in good spirit, of course!), and enough daftness to keep us smiling all day.

Best of all, together we raised just shy of £200 for Askrigg Badminton Club. Not bad going at all!
A massive thank you to everyone who organised, helped out, donated prizes and, of course, all the teams who came along—even those nursing a bit of a football-induced sore head! Tha’s a good bunch. ❤️

Same time next year then? 🚗💨

Go and cheer our fab cricketers on in tomorrows match against Carperby. Always a source of laughs, good company and questionable cricket skills 😉

It's not everyday we get to paraphrase Shakespeare in our social media posts, but the rabbits continue to play merry hell with the wicket, which resulted in all kinds of dramatic outbursts from our groundsman yesterday. So no harm in throwing a bit of the Bard into the mix.

That said, as of last night, the pitch for the fundraiser match Vs Carperby Rovers FC was - according to the groundsman at least - "playing like the Oval, but with truer bounce". By the time it's finished raining over the next 24 hours or so, we suspect the groundsman will have to revise his opinion. 'Playing like the Everglades but with fewer alligators' might be more apt...

We can't do anything about the weather, but we can guarantee great beer (thanks Yorkshire Dales Brewing Company Limited for supporting us again!), great food (with burgers and soss from the wonderful Hammond's butchers in Bainbridge) and amazing raffle prizes from incredibly generous local busineses including from Middle House Askrigg, HPB Kings Arms Askrigg, The Bake-Well, Market Place, Ramsay's Fish and Chip Van, and others who I will highlight in another post). Raffle tickets are still available at Sykes House and The Crown Inn, and will be available at the match tomorrow. There will even be a bit of shelter, courtesy of Paul C and Hoppers.

Last but not least we need to say a massive thanks to The Crown Inn Askrigg for continuing to go over and above in supporting us (and helping keep the outfield cut!!).
