WE ARE AWARD WINNERS!

We are delighted to receive this award presented to us by the Luxury Travel Guide.

Here’s what they had to say in full:

The Pheasant Public House & Hotel is an independently
owned country pub, restaurant and boutique hotel
providing seven luxury en-suite bedrooms alongside
relaxed dining and a warm welcome. Located in
Gestingthorpe, it attracts guests from Essex, Hertfordshire,
Cambridgeshire and London, as well as international
visitors seeking a countryside escape. The Pheasant’s
blend of hospitality and relaxed luxury has created a
destination that appeals to local diners, business travellers
and leisure guests alike, with quality dining, comfortable
accommodation and attentive service helping it stand
out as a welcoming countryside retreat. Its reputation for
hospitality encourages repeat visits.

The judges admired The Pheasant’s dedication to
delivering exceptional hospitality through attentive
service, quality accommodation and a memorable dining
experience. The team’s ability to respond to individual
guest needs creates a distinctive experience that larger
operators cannot easily replicate, while investment
in online booking, digital marketing and reputation
management supports growth. Seasonal menus, themed
pizza evenings, local sourcing and careful waste reduction
demonstrate a commitment to innovation, sustainability
and the community. Improvements to facilities and
relationships with local partners further enhance its
reputation, ensuring guests continue to enjoy a high-
quality countryside experience.

Something a bit different for tap talk Tuesday tonight. Our latest on tap and sitting alongside our regular line up of lagers is the 0.0 - so good you would hardly know it’s a 0% beer.

On tap this week: Aspall Dry Cyder, 5.5%. Made in Suffolk since 1728, so they’ve had a fair bit of practice.

Crisp, properly dry, and made from a blend of sweet, sharp and bitter apples rather than just concentrate and fizz. No faffing about, just good cyder done the way it’s always been done.

In at The Pheasant now. Come and give it a go.

Birra Moretti started in Udine in 1859, back when Friuli was still part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Luigi Moretti was 37, came from a family of wholesale food and drink merchants, and set up a beer and ice factory that put out its first bottle the following year. The bloke with the moustache came much later. In 1942 Lao Menazzi Moretti spotted a local sat in the Trattoria Boschetti in Udine, walked over and asked if he could photograph him. When he asked what the man wanted in return, the answer was another Birra Moretti. That face has been on every label since. It pours at 4.6% with a bit of hop bite and a dry finish, which is why it holds up next to food.

Cruzcampo came out of Seville in 1904. Tomás and Roberto Osborne were a sherry family from El Puerto de Santa María who went travelling through Germany and Belgium to learn how to brew, then came home and built a brewery in the Nervión district over a well whose water ran close to what they use in Pilsen. They named it after the Templete de la Cruz del Campo, the old shrine down the road that Seville still walks to at Easter. First beer went out on 22 December 1904, using a yeast strain they found that same year and still brew with today. The UK pour is 4.4%, softer and rounder, built to be drunk properly cold.
