Run don't walk to the Miami Valley Pottery Pop Up at the old hardware store, which opens today until June 14! Naysan has created 101 forms that reflect the Mingei movement and his recent study of Japanese ceramics. As Chuck Shows wrote in the news, "The Mingei movement argued that true beauty was not found in objects made to be observed, but in humble things made sincerely, often by anonymous craftspeople, and used every day. Mingei proposes that beauty should live in ordinary rituals: eating, drinking, gathering, serving and sharing." We are honored to have Naysan's pottery at MAZU and in our home, spreading joy and beauty as we eat and share together.

Are we in Ohio or are we in Puerto Rico?! Check out Van's virgin Rosada Piña Colada, with hibiscus syrup along with the classic ingredients of pineapple and coconut. The earliest known folktale states that in the 19th century, Puerto Rican pirate Roberto Cofresí, to boost the morale of his crew, gave them a beverage or cocktail that contained coconut, pineapple, and white rum. If you're looking for something ultra refreshing and bubbly, then go with Coco Rico, originated in 1935 from PR.

PUERTO RICAN PLATTER! We loooove having MAZU alumn Amanda back to guest chef! Arroz con salchichas is yellow rice with sofrito and meatless chorizo (Amanda’s riff on Bad Bunny's favorite dish), served with a side of tostones (twice fried green plantains) with mojo garlic cilantro sauce, a mini alcapurria (fried green banana and taro fritter) with creamy salsa rosada, and a side salad with lettuce, tomato, avocado. Presenting our MAZU summer of 2026 dream team! This month we expanded our crew from 5 to 10 staff, which is just the name of this seasonal game. Last night our fearless kitchen manager Lily led us through a fantastic team building exercise, we discussed all the hot tips for the ideal summer flow, and then we had a potluck. It's gonna be rare to see us all together, so we had to capture the moment when we could!

Amanda is here to help you out: "Summer vibes, Caribbean island time, bright pastels and flowy shirts and pants - nothing that'll stick too much at 100% humidity on the island!" We're working on the music and food and drinks....you work on your outfits. And if you wear a Hawaiian shirt, no Pina Colada for you. :p

Our hearts are broken over the sudden passing of Carl Moore, a pillar of our community and founder of the Who's Hungry soup kitchen. Carl was a friend, uncle, teacher and mentor to so many of us, demonstrating daily how to love and give unconditionally, and how to make space for everyone at the table. He invited every single person in, made them feel safe and seen, and then served up his delicious food along with his humor and warmth. He was the greatest example of how food brings people together, and how an extra piece of cornbread or an extra hug can totally change someone's day. He inspired people constantly to join the WH team and volunteer, because his dedication and joy was infectious. We miss you so much already and we will carry on your legacy and spirit, Carl. We are all better for having known you and been in your presence.

Please share any memories or notes about Carl here or in our space this week, and we will make sure Jim and Carl's family receive them all. If you'd like to support Jim or Who's Hungry in this hard time, please send a DM for more information.
