It was a great day for a Lobster Bake for America’s 250th birthday!
All seafood was cooked onsite infront of our clients family. It was a great interactive experience! These lobsters and steamer clams were picked up directly off the boat from Maine’s York Harbor before sunrise and immediately driven to us to be cooked for lunch! It doesn’t get any more personalized and fresher than that…unless you eat them directly off the boat.

Hi, I’m Alyssa! The chef and owner behind Rustic Roots Kitchen.

With so many new followers recently, I thought it was a good idea to do a quick “about your chef”.

I’m a New England Culinary Institute graduate with over a decade of experience in restaurants, private dining, and catering. Before starting Rustic Roots Kitchen, I worked as a head chef for a busy catering company, spent a few years as a private chef on the southern Maine coast, and even had the opportunity to appear on Food Network.

But my greatest accomplishment isn’t a title…it’s building a business that lets me cook with purpose while raising my son close to home.

Rustic Roots Kitchen was built on family recipes, local ingredients, and the belief that good food brings people together. Whether I’m preparing weekly ready-to-eat meals, catering weddings, events for 300 guests, creating intimate private dinners, or baking alongside my grandmother, every dish is made with care and intention.

Congratulations to the newly married Mr. & Mrs. Brunelle!

It was such an honor to be part of their beautiful wedding day! We created a custom BBQ-style wedding menu built entirely around their favorite flavors after meeting together for a tasting. It is one of my favorite parts of what I do—crafting a menu that’s uniquely the clients instead of a one-size-fits-all package.

Between serving guests, making sure everything was running smoothly, and honestly just taking in how beautiful the afternoon was, I completely forgot to take more photos! Sometimes that’s the best sign of all.

One year ago, Rustic Roots Kitchen was just an idea fueled by a dream, a love of food, family recipes, and a desire to build something meaningful while raising my son.

Today, I can officially say we’ve been in business for one year!

What started with a handful of meal prep orders has grown into catering weddings, private dinners, celebrations of life, corporate lunches, community events, and serving hundreds of people throughout Vermont and beyond. There have been long nights, early mornings, moments of doubt, and more lessons than I could ever count. But there has also been an incredible amount of support, encouragement, and kindness from this community.

To every customer who placed an order, shared a post, recommended my business, trusted me with your special events, or simply cheered me on from the sidelines, thank you! You have helped turn a dream into a reality.

Rustic Roots Kitchen is more than just food. It’s family recipes, Vermont roots, hard work, community, and the belief that good food brings people together. It has allowed me to create a life centered around my family while doing what I love every day.

Most importantly, because so many of you believed in me, supported my business, and chose Rustic Roots Kitchen, I was able to spend the first year and a half of my son’s life with him by my side while still pursuing the career I love. That is a gift I will never be able to fully put into words. The time, memories, and moments I’ve been given with him are something I will carry with me forever, and I have all of you to thank for helping make that possible.
