We are retiring…

…some teas.

Eleven to be exact. As a result, we are drastically reducing the “per ounce price” to $2 per ounce. Once inventory is depleted, we will no longer offer them on our website.

Why would we do this? Honestly? We have some duplicates or “near duplicates”. For instance, Cranberry Apple will stay but Cranberry Bark will be no more. Counting Sheep will stay but Sweet Dreams will go. Roasted Almonds was a huge seller in our café, but it is not overly popular on our online store.

Would like to be able to add some new flavors and when you already have 90 to offer, it’s difficult to make room for more. If that makes sense…

We are now in Indiana! Saint John, Indiana! (24 miles southeast of Chicago)

There just so happens to be a young lady who resides in Waverly who happened to share our Cinnamon Spice tea with a family member in St. John.

It just so happens that family member owns a little gift shop called Sweet Home Indiana.

And it just so happens that they wanted to carry our tea.

They picked up a boatload of tea a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of an open house last week. Most of the tea is gone, but you can see a few bags nestled on one of these shelves.

Cinnamon Spice—our second best selling tea—made them believers!

We happen to love being a supplier to the folks in Indiana…we tip our cup to you!

Sue placed an order last night for a Top 10 Teaser box. It contains one ounce bags of our top ten teas. Lizzy got everything packaged and I texted Sue to let her know that she could pick it up at her convenience at our Waterloo location. I also told her that I placed everything in a box rather than a bag just in case it was going to be used as a gift.

She responded and said that those teas would be traveling to Iowa City with her granddaughter who would be starting her freshman year at the University of Iowa.

Alongside her text, she sent this picture. This is nine-year-old Norah having tea the first year we opened in the “old Cellar” on Main Street. Is she adorable?

Her grandmother indicated that they had such sweet memories over the course of the years that we were open and wanted to share that picture.

It warmed my heart. I’m not gonna lie. Knowing that time spent together was sweet. And memories were made.

I boldly asked for a current picture and she sent that as well.

Isn’t she lovely?

From 9 to 19… a tea drinker then and a tea drinker now… but even more important than that are the lifelong memories that bind a grandmother to her granddaughter.

We are so fortunate and so grateful to have played a very small part in those tea-drinking experiences.

We wish you the best, Norah, as you start your freshman year. May the tea your grandmother gave you today be a source of warmth and home as you begin this new chapter.

Are you ready for another special??

How about one of our matte black tins filled with your favorite tea? Or two? Or all 90?

These tins normally range from $13.20 to $22.80---now until midnight on Thursday, August 13th, they are only $10 each!

(You read that right!)

Click on the link in comments and tell us in the Notes Section which tea or teas you want. Do not go to the the tea directly on the website as those prices have not changed.

The only teas we are out of are Raspberry Kiss and Blackberry Papaya.

Just a friendly reminder that we will open our doors at 8 AM until 1 PM on Saturday, August 1st, for anyone who wants to come in to fill their canisters and tins.

We also set up a couple of shelves with retail items and tea tools that are found on our website, but if you’d like to shop on site, we want you to feel free to do so.

Lastly, if you want to come in and buy a bag of tea, we will fill it. We do not have bags readily available, but if you’re willing to wait while Lizzy bags them, we can do that for you.*

We are located at 1903 W. Ridgeway in Waterloo. Across from Casey’s. It’s a brick building and we are in the lower level. Look for the blue awnings.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday! 

*The only tea--out of the 90 teas we carry--that we are out of is BlackBerry Papaya. We are low on milk oolong but we still have 10 or 15 oz of it.

We are opening our doors this Saturday—August 1st—from 8 AM until 1 PM for you to stock up!

As always, we will stay true to the promise that we will honor the price* on the label as long as we can read it. (And some of you have had those labels for over nine years!)

We will also have a shelf for you to shop from as you wait…

And we may just have a little tea lemonade or iced tea to quench your thirst… compliments of the Tea Cellar…

You might remember that quick post Tuesday evening asking if anyone wanted us to bottle Iced Teas...

The response was pretty overwhelming so I showed your comments to this guy. Jeff Walters. Manager at Hansen's Farm Fresh Dairy on 18th Street in Cedar Falls.

His concern? No Refrigeration space. But why let a small problem like that stand in our way!

We found a space. He went out and bought a shelf. And SHAZAM! We made 10 gallons of freshly brewed Iced Teas for you on this Friday morning right in the Hansen Dairy Kitchen!

No sugar added. Pure loose leaf tea. 32 oz bottles. $4.75 a bottle. (Flavors are listed in the first comment.)

Hope you try em out... hope you like em... hope you give us feedback...

Gotta admit...it was fun brewing tea for you this morning! Have a great weekend!

Just puttin’ a little feeler out there…

You may recall last summer that each of our 12 staff chose their favorite iced tea and we packaged it for a week and sold it in our take-and-go fridge.

We currently sell tea lemonade in 32 ounce bottles at Hansen's Farm Fresh Dairy on 18th St. in Cedar Falls, but do you think there would be interest in a straight iced tea? No lemonade added?

If so, should it be slightly sweetened? Or unsweetened?

And lastly, what flavors would you suggest?

Appreciate your input…

(I should add that pricing would be lower for iced teas than tea lemonades.)
