Mark your calendar: on Thursday, October 29, Tony "The Rat Pack" Sabelo is trading the tux for boat shoes and bringing yacht rock to the rooftop from 4 to 7 PM.

Smooth, sunny, windows-down songs you know every word to. We're already getting calls about this one, and the rooftop fills up fast, so plan to come early.

Two new regulars showed up just in time for fall.

Sandwiches are now on the dinner menu, Monday through Thursday. The Homemade Meatball Sub, Mondo's Famous Hero, the Italian Beef and the rest of the lineup, each with wedge fries for $14.50.

And every Tuesday is Papa Lou's Pasta Tuesday. Pick your pasta, pick your sauce (marinara, meat sauce, Alfredo, pesto or vodka cream), add a topper if you want one, and finish with spumoni or two mini cannolis. House salad and garlic bread come with it for $12.95, or $15.95 with a topper.

October is Italian-American Heritage Month, and we're proud to be one of Tulsa's Italian-American families.

Our story starts in a small village in Abruzzo. Angelo came to America in 1920. His son Lou opened Mondo's in Tulsa in 1969. Lou's son Rob brought it back in 2012, and today Rob's kids are carrying it into the next generation. Four generations, one family table.

Back in the day, when the wait at Mondo's ran out the door every weekend and nobody in Tulsa could stop talking about the sauce, a competitor started a rumor.

Word around town was we were spiking it with something addictive. Let’s just say the ingredient they had in mind wasn’t found in the spice aisle [wink wink].

Our long lines were clearly hitting a nerve. We took it as a compliment.

If you ask us, the mystery ingredient is the family recipe Angelo carried with him through Ellis Island; the exact spice blend Rob still mixes himself every single week.

Or maybe it's just what happens when one family makes the same sauce for three generations. Either way, if you’re one of our regulars, you know it's habit-forming.

PAPA LOU'S PASTA TUESDAY BEGINS TONIGHT 🍝

Papa Lou loved pasta, and he loved a full family table even more. So starting tonight, every Tuesday at dinner is Papa Lou's Pasta Tuesday.

Four courses for $12.95:
Pick your pasta.
Pick your sauce.
Add a topper if you want one ($15.95).
Pick your dessert.

Every plate comes with house salad and our garlic bread. The sauces are made from scratch from the recipes Lou grew up on, the ones his father Angelo brought from Italy.

Starting tonight, our sandwiches are on the dinner menu Monday through Thursday. So many of you asked for this that we finally gave in. You're welcome.

The lineup: Homemade Meatball Sub, Mondo's Famous Hero, Capocollo, Sausage Sub, Italian Beef and the Italian Combo. We’re keeping the lunch price at $14.50 each with wedge fries. The meatballs, marinara and Italian dressing are all made right here from our family recipes.

On October 2, 1920, a 15-year-old named Angelo Aloisio came through Ellis Island. His family had left a small village in Abruzzo, and he brought their recipes with him.

He worked his way up to executive chef and passed everything he knew to his son, Lou. When Lou opened Mondo's in 1969, Angelo came to Tulsa and spent about a month in that first kitchen, teaching the cooks to make the food the way his family always had. His handwritten recipe cards are still what we cook from.

On October 2, 2020, exactly 100 years later, Angelo's grandson Rob signed the papers on the land where Mondo's stands today.

Some things haven't changed since Angelo's day. Every week, Rob still mixes the family's secret spices himself for our sauces, dressings and soups. Our pasta comes from Italy. A meal at Mondo's tastes homemade because it is, made from the same recipes and with the same care this family has put into them for generations.

DJ Jos is spinning above Brookside from 4 to 7 PM, fresh from Amiens, France, Tulsa's sister city. Sunset happy hour runs 3 to 6, so come up early and grab a spritz. No reservations needed.
