We know many travelers have questions about wildfires across Utah right now, and we understand the concern. The good news: Wayne County and Capitol Reef Country are currently open, welcoming visitors, and enjoying clear blue skies.

From scenic drives to red rock adventures, the experiences you know and love are here waiting.

As always, we encourage travelers to check conditions before their trip, but at this time, wildfires are not impacting the Wayne County experience.

We look forward to welcoming you to Capitol Reef Country.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17oNhsyL9c/ Thank you, Torrey Town Mayor Mickey Wright, for communicating with and informing the public about conditions in Wayne County & the Capitol Reef National Park area.

**Press Release from Torrey Town Mayor Mickey Wright on Friday, June 26, 2026**

Torrey Open and Monitoring Smoke From Cottonwood Fire

The Cottonwood Fire remains over 45 miles west of Torrey, with significant distance and terrain between the fire and the Fremont River Valley. There is no direct fire threat to Torrey, Teasdale, Grover, or Capitol Reef National Park. Highway 24 is open, and the area is fully accessible.

Torrey has experienced periods of smoke and reduced visibility, which vary with changing winds. Town officials are monitoring conditions using local PurpleAir sensors in Torrey and Capitol Reef and remain in regular contact with Wayne County Emergency Management and state wildfire authorities.

Both Wayne County and the Town of Torrey have enacted fire restrictions prohibiting fireworks, open fires, and other ignition sources. Local law enforcement is actively enforcing these restrictions due to heightened wildfire risk. These measures reflect the Town's commitment to protecting residents, visitors, and surrounding public lands.

"Safety is our first priority," said Mayor Mickey Wright. "Torrey is not in the fire zone, and there are no evacuation orders. Our restaurants, lodging, and shops remain open and ready to welcome visitors."

Visitors are encouraged to:

Check official fire updates at Utah Fire Info - utahfireinfo.gov

Monitor smoke and air quality via PurpleAir or AirNow - purpleair.com

Follow all Wayne County and Torrey fire restrictions

Support local businesses affected by earlier smoke-related cancellations

Check updates on Torrey's website and page — torreyutah.gov and facebook.com/torreyutah

Torrey extends appreciation to the firefighters and agencies working to contain the Cottonwood Fire and protect communities across the region.
