Broken Spur made the news, one pie at a time.

SFGATE recently featured Capitol Reef’s famous Gifford House pies, and we’re proud to say those pies are baked each morning right here at Broken Spur in Torrey.

It’s a small behind-the-scenes role, but one we’re pretty proud of. If you’ve ever grabbed a pie after a Capitol Reef hike, you’ve had a little taste of what our bakery team does each morning.

It may be quieter than Zion or Arches, but that’s part of what makes it special. Scenic drives, red rock canyons, historic orchards, overlooks, hikes, and wide-open desert views make Capitol Reef one of the most rewarding stops in southern Utah.

Cassidy Arch is one of Capitol Reef’s most memorable hikes, and the payoff is hard to beat.

The trail climbs from Grand Wash to a massive sandstone arch named after Butch Cassidy, who is tied to the outlaw history of the area. Unlike many arches you view from below, Cassidy Arch can be seen from above, making it one of the more unique photo spots in the park.

Evenings near Capitol Reef have a way of slowing everything down.

The red rock starts to glow, the sky changes by the minute, and the whole landscape feels quieter after a day of exploring. Torrey is an International Dark Sky Community, which means the views don’t stop when the sun goes down. On clear nights, the stars become part of the experience.

It’s one of the best parts of staying in Torrey: you don’t have to rush away from the views when the park day is over.
