Ten Drops Coffee

Ten Drops Coffee We deserve local, fresh coffee in Plainfield. Ten Drops is committed to honestly sourcing, carefully roasting and meticulously extracting liquid joy.

Ten Drops derives its name from a Icelandic/Scandinavian idea "Tíu dropar." In essence, it's polite to offer a visitor coffee, but maybe you're hoping they won't hog all of it--save some for the fish! And on the other side it's maybe uncomfortable to turn down that hospitality, or rude to drink all of the available coffee... so you'd say "just ten drops"--just a little coffee!. Our goal is to brin

g independent, local, specialty coffee to Plainfield. We deserve a place to get beans that are within days of their roast date, not weeks or months. Those who understand specialty coffee, know the difference. Those who don't know what the fuss is about... maybe we can help. We will only offer things that we would be thrilled to drink. There is no good reason to drink bad coffee.

THIS TUESDAY we will close early (12 noon) to do some cleaning and maintenance work. It’s tough to get this stuff done when you’re open 7 days a week.

So yeah, we will be kicking everyone out like little coffee curmudgeons, and getting down to work. Won’t be able to make any drinks. You have 6 hours on Tuesday to get your coffee fix!

Roasted early for the weekend, as Aaron and I both have busy extracurriculars tomorrow.

Outgoing: Ethiopia Suke Quto is gone. There will be fresh crop in the country soon, and we WILL get it. There are just a handful of bags left in the shop.

Going soon: Honduras Natural has a week or two left before it’s gone. It’s been awesome and we already have the next Honduras coffees booked, though they won’t land until late July or early August.

Restocked: The Colombia washed Red Bourbon is going strong. It’s been our batch brew for the last month. Pride Blend is reloaded for the weekend. We made enough Green Eyes that I DARE you to run us out.

New for the season, coming out tomorrow, Costa Rica Finca Chilamate Red Honey Catuaí, from Las Lajas. For once we are putting Costa Rica on service at its freshest-from-import. This is a bright cup, mildly fruity. It’s got an electric vibe… it’s going to be exactly the thing for some of you. Should make awesome flash iced pourovers and DOES make awesome filter coffee.

Coffee and Beer Snobs at Ten Drops want to congratulate Werk Force Brewing on another anniversary. These folks have been the best neighbors you could ever have. Total professionals, while still a bunch of awesome jackasses.

They’re celebrating this one with a few new beers but this is an old one. This is Pineapple Express… the beer that became Formerly Known As. It is perfect.

I got one of the rare low-fill cans to share with Aaron as we button down another roast day. This is all just like the old days—just more grey hair. 🙂

I don’t consume as much beer as I did in 2016 when we opened—I don’t love it any less. We’ve been so lucky to have friends to collaborate with at many Chicagoland breweries… I guess in a sense service industry and production jobs all sort of dovetail nicely.

Support local, no matter who!

We love these folks. We don’t have a lot of hours open, but here’s a way into a real rock star third wave cafe.

Theeeeey’re baaaaaaack!

This year’s Pride blend is about 60/40 our Josue Ariel Funez natural Honduras (blue and white stamp) and Nicaragua Tierra Madre Women Producers (a regional lot produced by 125 women coffee producers in Jinotega.) It’s a washed blend of Bourbons, Catimors, Caturra and Typicas.

The 60% Nicaragua gives it a classic clean cup base and the Honduras lends a little acidity and fruit. It’s definitely the kind of coffee I could drink by the pot rather than the cup.

$5 from every bag supports Plainfield Pride!

If schedules align tomorrow, we will make the first batch of this year’s Plainfield Pride blend.

This year we will be using a women’s co-op coffee from Nicaragua blended with our natural Honduras. We are looking for milk chocolate / caramel / raspberry. We might make the retail bags and let early adopters nab batch 1, but we might hold it back a day for QA cupping and analysis.

This week, we will be bringing that coffee out and debuting a Red Honey Costa Rica.

It’s gonna be a good coffee week.

This one was all sort of out of left field for us, but hey, we’re super honored!I’ve been using a Precision Brewer at home as my daily driver for years, so of course I’m more than cool with a surprise tip of a hat!
