Desayuno típico salvadoreño, the typical Salvadoran breakfast plate. ☀️☁️
Scrambled eggs with tomato, onion, casamiento, fried plantains, garlic crema, avocado, Pleasant Lane Farms feta, tortillas.
The casamiento, which literally means “marriage,” is rice and refried beans cooked together with sofrito. My mother’s recipe, just very flavorful! ♥️
There is a lot of things I could say about this plate being a “typical” Salvadoran breakfast, but mostly I just wanted to make something that tasted familiar.
Swipe to see little Chef Marcella & read more about why this dish is so important to her & our menu ——>
I spent a lot of time in El Salvador when I was younger! Some of the food I remember most clearly is food that is not particularly complicated. This is one of those plates where none of the individual components need much explanation.
The point is really how they all get eaten together. A little egg, casamiento, plantain, avocado, crema, & cheese all scooped up with a tortilla. And then repeat….
The feta is obviously not queso duro. We are using cheese from Pleasant Lane Farm instead, mostly because it’s just really really good.
The produce isn’t necessarily coming from El Salvador & the kitchen is in Pennsylvania.
So, with all of that being said….
It’s not trying to recreate a plate exactly as it exists there. It’s more like taking something that I grew up eating and letting it exist here & now. 🥹
