The City of Nowata is proud to announce that the Nowata Animal Shelter has been recognized by Best Friends Animal Society for achieving no-kill status after exceeding a 90% save rate for cats and dogs.
The shelter recently received a plaque from Best Friends Animal Society recognizing this significant accomplishment and the continued dedication to improving outcomes for animals in our community.

A large part of that progress can be attributed to the dedication of Animal Control Officer Rayko Goodreau, who works diligently each day to improve the shelter and find loving homes for the animals in its care.
Since taking on her role, Rayko has worked tirelessly to improve the shelter environment, advocate for the animals, and build relationships that help place animals in safe and loving homes.

“This recognition means so much to me because I have seen firsthand how much the shelter has changed and improved,” said Goodreau. “There has been so much hard work put into getting the shelter to where it is today, and I am incredibly proud of the progress we have made. Most importantly, I am proud that we are giving these animals a better chance at finding loving homes. Every animal deserves that opportunity, and reaching this milestone shows that our hard work is making a difference.”
