A dream that began on the beach at Waikiki, continues today in an historic TriBeCa factory. BIKINI BAR® was established in 1997 by designer Aileen Oser and diver Stuart Smith, specializing in custom boards and bikinis with an organic cafe. The vintage surf shop specializes in custom order surfboards and SUPs by legendary shapers, along with an organic cafe serving Java, Kava, Raw Juice, Acai Bowls
, and Shave Ice. Located in the back half of the space is a couture swimwear studio specializing in bikinis and lingerie contracted for factory production. We are committed to operating in a socially and ecologically responsible manner, proudly supporting artists and products handmade in America with passion and integrity. Drop in for seasonal collections with seasonal retail hours, and enjoy an Endless Summer vacation with us... Aloha! Aileen Oser grew up surfing in Hawaii, and sold her handmade bikinis to local boutiques. She cocktailed her way cross country to New York City in search of a swimwear career, and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. Aileen caught the end of an era learning brassiere design and manufacture craftsmanship while becoming Design Director of the Bestform Foundations Division of Vanity Fair, a Foundations Designer with Wacoal, and an Intimates Contractor for Delta and Carole Hochman. With over 30 years of experience, she has worked on various intimates lines including Betsey Johnson, OnGossamer, DKNY, Victoria's Secret, The Gap, JC Penney, Sears, Walmart, Kmart and Target. Stuart Smith grew up surfing the summers on the Jersey Shore, and became a N.A.S.D.S. Navy Deep Sea Diver Program and became a Mixed Gas Diving Supervisor specializing in Deep Sea Rescue and Salvage. His eight year tour of duty included searching for KAL-007 off the coast of Russia, underwater surveys for the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, and surveying sunken WWII wrecks in Bikini Atoll and TTPI. While on leave from the South Pacific, Stuart and Aileen met on a plane bound for N.Y.C. and were married on Valentine's Day at the Statue of Liberty. Tragically Stu passed away on July 10, 2011 and the lesson to learn is that life is too short not to appreciate every moment together... Bula!
