Cyber thieves sent this to a local nonprofit soliciting $5,500 for a Special Use Permit application. Scammers are accessing public documents to find out who is applying for permits in New Bern, then sending them a fake invoice for payment by wire transfer. They're even using the city logo & the names of city employees. π—§π—›π—œπ—¦ π—œπ—¦ 𝗔 𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗠!
Do not click on any links within the email or respond to the sender. Delete the email immediately.

The City of New Bern does not accept payment for any services via wire transfer.
And our email domain is @ newbernnc.gov, so you'll know it's a fake if it doesn't come from that one. If you are unsure whether you have an outstanding balance for planning, zoning, permitting or inspection fees please call us at (252)639-7581. See a copy of the fake invoice below.
