Lesson time! Let's talk about aerificiation and why it's important on a golf course.

Aerification relieves soil compaction, improves air and water movement through the root zone, and allows oxygen and nutrients to reach the roots more effectively. It also helps reduce thatch buildup and encourages deeper, healthier root growth. All of which lead to smoother, more consistent playing surfaces. Although the process can leave greens looking unsightly, it is only temporary and the benefits are worth the minor impact to the playing surface. Just look how quickly the recovery process can be!

We complete aerification using multiple machines. First, a topdresser applies a thin, even layer of sand over the turf to fill the holes and improve soil structure. This step also helps to smooth the playing surface during the recovery period. Next, an aerator is used to remove small soil cores, which creates small holes. These holes work as channels, allowing air, water, and nutrients to move throughout the root zone. Finally, we use a large turbine to push the sand around the greens, ensuring every hole is filled with sand. This helps to improve drainage and keep the soil profile open.

Aerification is truly a simple process, with tremendous benefits!
