Position Description
The River Raisin Trading Post & Michigan Wine and Beer Portal Manager in Training position is a key role in the day to day operation of the business as a whole. The manager’s duties include being a leader for their crew. This is demonstrated by being approachable and providing effective communication to your team throughout the shift. Examples of this include creating, maintaining and delegating the daily task list, watching for quality and consistency as food and beverages leave the bar and maintaining availability for questions from staff as well as customers. Maintaining communication with other leaders to provide smooth shift transitions as well as expressing any questions or concerns to leadership.
Managers as well as managers in training are also expected to be a full member of the team meaning they are able to physically support their team in either front of house or back of house at any point in the shift. The manager in training role also comes with the expectation of completing training in a timely yet effective manner to be fully comfortable as a manager. On our team we never ask our staff to do anything that we won’t do ourselves. That includes but is not limited to bartending, barista work, cooking, cleaning the bathrooms, taking out the trash, doing the dishes, shoveling snow, and many more tasks in addition to the strict manager role.
