Kooky Canuck Thanks Memphis After Final Four Run in America’s Best Wings Tournament

Downtown restaurant celebrates community support and Memphis’ incredible wing culture following national competition

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Kooky Canuck’s run for the title of America’s Best Wings has come to an end, but not before Memphis made its presence known on the national stage.

After advancing from a field of 64 restaurants from across the United States to the Final Four, Kooky Canuck fell short of capturing the championship in The64.com’s America’s Best Wings Tournament.

For Kooky Canuck President Shawn Danko, however, the lasting story of the tournament is the extraordinary support the restaurant received from Memphis and Kooky Canuck fans across the country.

“We would have loved to bring the championship home, but what we’ll remember most is how people rallied behind us and behind Memphis,” Danko said. “From our longtime guests here in the 901 to Kooky Canuck fans across the United States, people voted, shared our posts, tagged their friends and helped carry a Memphis restaurant all the way to the Final Four. We are incredibly grateful.”

Along the way, the campaign evolved from a competition about one restaurant into a celebration of the city it represents, rallying around the message “MEMPHIS VS. ERRRBODY.”

The experience also reinforced something Memphians have known for years: Memphis’ food identity extends well beyond its world-famous barbecue.

“Memphis has an incredible wing culture, and we’re proud to be a small part of it,” Danko said. “There are great wing restaurants throughout this city, each with its own flavors, traditions and loyal following. If this tournament helped introduce a few more people around the country to what Memphis brings to the table, then that’s something worth celebrating.”

Kooky Canuck now plans to build on that momentum by continuing to showcase Memphis food, hospitality and personality to visitors and audiences around the country.

“We didn’t bring home the trophy, but Memphis showed up and showed out,” Danko said. “To everyone who voted, shared, posted and cheered us on — thank you. We couldn’t have made the Final Four without you. We’re proud of Memphis, proud to represent this city and excited about what comes next.”

MEMPHIS IS IN THE FINAL FOUR: Kooky Canuck Advances in America’s Best Wings Tournament

Downtown Memphis restaurant is one of only four remaining nationwide

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — From 64 restaurants across America to just four — Memphis is still standing.

Kooky Canuck has advanced to the Final Four of The64.com’s America’s Best Wings Tournament, putting the locally owned Downtown Memphis restaurant one victory away from competing for the national title of America’s Best Wings 2026.

“MEMPHIS VS. ERRRBODY — and Memphis keeps showing up,” said Shawn Danko, President of Kooky Canuck. “We started with 64 restaurants from across the country and now there are only four. This community has carried us every step of the way, and now we need Memphis to show up and show out again.”

The tournament run has grown into a citywide rally, with guests, residents, local businesses and supporters across Memphis helping push Kooky Canuck through each round.

With a spot in the national championship on the line, Danko says the campaign is now bigger than the restaurant.

“We’re not just asking people to vote for Kooky Canuck — we’re asking them to vote for Memphis,” Danko said. “Everybody knows Memphis for barbecue, but this is also a serious chicken wing city. Now we have a chance to show the rest of America.”

Kooky Canuck has served Downtown Memphis since 2005 and is nationally known for its legendary Kookamonga Burger Challenge, oversized portions, scratch-made food and Southern-inspired cuisine with a Canadian twist. Its chicken wings and signature sauces have also developed a loyal local following.

One more tournament victory will send Memphis into the national championship round.

The winner of the Final Four matchup will advance to the championship round, where the final two restaurants will compete for the official title of The64.com’s America’s Best Wings 2026.
