What do all these artisan cheeses have in common? They’re produced here in the USA!

As we begin to celebrate America’s Birthday, we wanted to highlight the broad spectrum of delicious American cheese that’s produced from coast to coast!

From rich bloomy rinds to bold blues and brawny alpines, there isn’t a type of cheese that’s isn’t being made somewhere in the States. While the tradition of American cheesemaking does come from Europe through colonization and immigration, generations of American cheesemakers have left an indelible impact on our cheese culture, making American cheese as diverse as the country itself.

If you’re looking to build a board of delicious American cheese this Fourth of July, be sure to stop by Milkfarm today from 11-7 or tomorrow from 11-2. While you’re at it, why not pick up some American charcuterie, jam, and crackers to round everything out?

This Fourth of July, bring home some freshly baked PRETZELS! As with most American snacks, pretzels originated somewhere else (most likely Bavaria), but have become a beloved baked good throughout the United States, ubiquitous at baseball games, state fairs, and mall food courts. They’re a great contribution to any Fourth of July get-together.

These burnished beauties are made by our good friend and local baker Colleen ( Colleen DeLee ). She adds Guinness and brown sugar to these savory pretzels to develop some real deep caramelized flavor in the dough as they bake. The jumbo sized salt crystals provide pops of salinity and a gentle crunch. Pick up a bottle of mustard (or a jar of Drippy Cheese Dip!) and your pals at the BBQ are going to be besides themselves.

O Canada! Today is Canada Day and if you’re looking to whip up a batch of Canada’s national dish, Milkfarm has got the curds! Sorry they’re not Canadian, but they will make some delicious poutine! Much respect to Quebec, the birthplace of poutine and an integral part of Canadian culture.

As any Canadian will tell you, poutine requires cheese curds (try serving a plate of poutine with shredded cheddar in any Canadian providence and see how that goes over). They gotta be squeaky, implying that they’re freshly made, and these Cheese Brothers curds have the squeak! If you’ve never tried cheese curds, give them a shot.

Besides curds, Canada makes some awesome cheese. Be on the lookout for the few Canadian wheels that make their way to our case!

Get it while you can! Morcella season is here and it won’t last forever.

Handmade by our friends at Shepherd's Way Farms, this bloomy rind cheese is made with sheep milk and pieces of locally foraged morel mushrooms. The richness of the sheep’s milk and the earthy flavors of morels make this cheese a unique variation on your standard Brie. This cheese is only produced during morel season, and we’re only expecting one or two more wheels this year (gasp!).

Shepherd's Way Farms is located in Minnesota, where the morel was officially designated the state mushroom in 1984. Incidentally, milk is Minnesota’s state beverage, making Morcella a true representation of the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

In November of 2025, the World Cheese Awards took place in Bern, Switzerland. With over 5,000 entries from across the globe, the scale of the competition is massive, encompassing cheeses of all styles and traditions, but only one wheel is named World’s Best Cheese.

As of 2025, the World’s Best Cheese is Gruyère AOP Vorderfultigen Spezial, and it’s now available at Milkfarm!

Aged for 18 months, this Gruyère is made by Bergkäserei Vorderfultigen, located in Hinterfultigen, Switzerland. All Gruyère is famous for its reliably high quality; this wheel is simply a flawless example of the Swiss mountain tradition. All the milk used in this wheel comes from a one mile radius of the creamery, and there’s a true sense of place when you eat this cheese. Brothy, bold, and herbaceous, with pops of tyrosine and a mile-long finish on the plate, this Gruyère is truly world class.

This is a hard to find cheese that’s definitely going to fly out the door; stop by ASAP to claim a wedge of the world best cheese for yourself!

It’s Milkfarm’s day of honor over at The Oinkster, where they’re serving up The Dairy Dealer a one-of-a-kind burger inspired by our sandwiches! We feel so honored to be included during Oinkster’s annual Burger Week and can’t wait for you to try this burger.

The Dairy Dealer will be available until sellout today only, but if burgers aren’t your thing (and neither are pastrami, chicken sandwiches, Belgian fries, shakes or classic A-frame buildings…), then mosey down the street to Milkfarm for our weekend special: The Muffuletta!

The Milkfarm Muffuletta is a special sandwich, only available Friday thru Sunday. Made on Bub and Grandma’s focaccia, this is our take on the New Orleans classic, featuring a pair of salamis (classic Genoa from Oliver Tangen and garlicky Milano from Lowry Whitley Hill), fresh mozz, greens, herbs, aioli, and most importantly, chopped olive salad brought in fresh from Louisiana. It’s not just olives btw: Boscoli’s Olive Salad also contains capers, giardiniera, and an herbaceous seasoning blend.

These sandwiches are always the first to sell out on Saturdays, so be sure to come down ASAP to claim one for yourself. That said, The Dairy Dealer is available today only, and the muffulettas will still be here tomorrow… do what your heart tells you.

Need something soft, luscious, maybe a little stinky for your weekend cheese plate? Look no further than this cider-washed wheel from the UK.

Yarlington is a small washed rind cheese made in Gloucestershire by David Jowett. Inspired by French washed rind traditions, these lovely little wheels are washed repeatedly with brine and then finished with a cider wash made from local apples by nearby cidery Yarlington Mill. Yarlington is a lovely bit of gastronomic fusion, using British ingredients to make a French inspired cheese. Expect a rich paste beneath the thin rind, with notes of cooked ham and dried apples.

There’s only a few wheels of Yarlington in stock, so be sure to claim one ASAP. Have a great weekend!

SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY! Stop by Milkfarm this Father’s Day for a Meet the Maker with one of our favorite cheesemakers: Quesos Navarro!

Producers of an assortment of traditional Mexican cheeses, Quesos Navarro is the first Mexican creamery to export cheese to the US. Their cheese is highly acclaimed; they’ve won awards from the American Cheese Society, the World Cheese Awards, and the Mundial Do Queijo Do Brasil.

They’ll be stopping by to grill up some of their delicious panela, a fresh cheese with a dense, unmeltable texture. Similar to paneer or bread cheese, it can be grilled without melting into goo. It’s a delicious treat and you can try some this Sunday, June 21st from 11am-2pm!

The oldest cheese in the shop? Surprisingly, it’s not the dry, crumbly wheels you see at room temperature. Our goudas average around 18 months of aging and most wheels of Parmigiano we receive are a little over two years old.

The true Old Man of the Cheese Case comes from Wisconsin: Hook’s 10 year Cheddar!

While it may look like a wedge of orange supermarket cheddar, this cheese is anything but. The texture is totally different, strikingly dense with a distinct flake. The paste is chock full of massive calcium lactate crystals; you can often feel them poking out of the cheese. The flavor is the biggest difference, not mild and tangy but bold and almost bittersweet, with notes of baking chocolate and toasted bread.

This cheese has been patiently aged by the fine folks at Hook’s cheese in Mineral Point, WI. Their cheddars are the nation’s gold standard, and you’ll always see their 2 year cheddar in the shop (we need it for our world famous grilled cheeses). If you get the chance to try any of their other cheeses (including their World Cheese Championship winning Colby), don’t hesitate.

Beaufort is back! This stunning French cheese is made in massive wheels, standing nearly 8 inches tall and clocking in at 90 pounds! Milkfarm receives more manageable wedges that still are a sight to behold.

This particular wedge is being sliced up for members of our monthly cheese club, and they’re getting something special this month! This is a wedge of Beaufort Alpage, meaning the milk for this wheel was taken from cows that were grazing on open pasture in alpine meadows. The meadow is full of a diverse range of grasses, herbs, and flowers and everything the cow eats is reflected in the milk. As a result, Alpage wheels are exceptionally flavorful and often have a spectrum of flavors that couldn’t be achieved without that unique meadowland diet.

A delightful alternative to Gruyère or Apenzeller, Beaufort melts well and is perfect for cooking, but with a cheese this special, we must insist you taste some as is first. We’ve been sampling it ourselves since yesterday and wow. What a cheese!

You can expect equally delightful options every month by joining our cheese club! It makes a great Fathers Day gift! The link to register is in our bio.
