Community Bakery was started in 1947 by Ralph Hinson in the Rose City section of North Little Rock. The bakery moved to a storefront near 14th and Main Streets in Little Rock in 1952 where, over the years, it became an institution in the area. Hinson’s head cake decorator, Agnes Bargiel, bought the business from him in the late 1970′s and operated it until she sold it to Joe Fox in 1983. Bargiel c

ontinued to decorate cakes at Community Bakery until she died in 2008. Fox opened the West Little Rock location in 1986 and then relocated the Main Street store to its current spot after renovating the vacant historic Cohn Building. The Café operation, espresso bar and distinctive line of European style pastries were added when the bakery opened in the Cohn Building at 12th and Main in 1993. All of our baking and cake decorating is done at the Main Street location and many of the recipes used 60 years ago are still in use today. Community Bakery employs 65 people to meet the needs of our customers here in central Arkansas.

Meet Chelsea, one of our talented Bakers who has been part of the Community Bakery family for over a 1 year!⁠
⁠
Chelsea’s favorite things to make are pies, danishes, and cinnamon rolls, and when she’s grabbing something for herself, you’ll probably find her with an espresso shake and an Asiago bagel. ☕🥯 But what Chelsea loves most about Community Bakery is the people.⁠
“I deeply care for my coworkers and management.”⁠
And she backs that up in a big way. Chelsea is always willing to help her teammates—whether that means jumping in at work, giving someone a ride home, or simply being a safe place when someone needs to talk.⁠

This month, we’re excited to feature the vibrant and meaningful work of Rex DeLoney! ⁠
⁠
⁠
Rex’s art explores hope, faith, everyday life, and the African American experience, using bold color and storytelling to create work that feels both personal and familiar.⁠
⁠
A graduate of the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in Commercial Art, Rex’s career has taken him from sports illustration in the Pacific Northwest to the powerful genre work he creates today.⁠
⁠
Rex is also helping shape the next generation of Arkansas artists as an art instructor and Chairman of the Fine Arts Department at Little Rock Central High School.⁠

We’re proud to showcase Rex’s incredible work throughout August. Stop by our Downtown SoMa location, grab a cold brew or something sweet, and spend a little time enjoying his art.⁠
