and Mary Garcia sold their modest home in San Antonio to purchase the El Chaparral in Helotes on Feb. 2, 1972. It was formerly known as Rudy and Irene’s, which had been a Mexican establishment for 24 years. Little did they know that this little hole in the wall would someday turn into such a world-class destination. Three decades and two generations of experience later, passion still goes into every smiling face and mouthwatering bite that make up El Chaparral.
