After 30 years, it's time to hang up our aprons and dock the boats one last time.
When we first came to R&R Bayview to help Darrell and Raydene DeJoode run the restaurant, resort, and mobile home park, we never imagined that "helping out" would turn into a 30-year adventure. But here we are. It has been the journey of a lifetime, but the time has come for us to write our next chapter. We are passing the torch and welcoming Chris and Calista Mathison to the history of R&R Bayview.
Looking back to where it all started—in those early years—with the help of the Kirklands and Rose, we were open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and supper—closed only on Christmas Day! Operating at this pace taught us one very important lesson: It takes a lot of great people to keep a place like this running.
Back then, Bud Ray held this place together with his ingenuity, a little more duct tape, and a bigger nail. More recently, Jeff Pfeifer (JP) has been our go-to guy, whose daily chuckle could make any problem seem like a simple fix. Thank you both.
We have also been blessed with incredible businesses and friends who always came through when we needed them. It's amazing what you can accomplish with one phone call to the right people. A heartfelt thank you goes to:
Como Oil & Gas—Jim, you're a hoot!
Dunn Rite Electric—Rick, always saying, "You know I'll take care of ya."
Northwest Sanitation—this family really knows their... well, you know!
Hayward Powersports—for keeping us supplied with the toys and making sure they kept running.
Rasmussen's—for just about everything else under the sun and moon that needed fixing.
These folks have stood by us for all 30 years, and we can't thank them enough.
We also have to recognize the amazing people who became part of the R&R family and made Lori's and my lives truly enjoyable. Your hard work and dedication have been an incredible blessing.
Heidi "No Time to Lean, Gotta Clean" Richards—you certainly live up to your name.
Brianna Lugo-Reyes—thank you for brightening our days by brightening the days of everyone around you.
Mario Lugo-Reyes—thank you for taking on so much physical work and responsibility over the years. Because of you, we were able to enjoy living here instead of simply working here. We will always be grateful.
To our neighbors who became dear friends, thank you for making this such a wonderful place to call home. It has truly been a pleasure to live in such a quiet, respectful, and fun community.
To our cottage guests and everyone who has dined with us over the years—thank you. Year after year, we welcomed you, watched you leave at the end of another wonderful summer, and eventually had the joy of welcoming your children—and even grandchildren—back through our doors. We've had the privilege of watching families grow and traditions continue. Thank you for making R&R Bayview part of your lives and allowing us to be part of your memories.
Somewhere along the way, we realized we had fewer customers and more friends. That is the greatest compliment we could ever receive, and that may just be our greatest accomplishment.
