Sept. 2, 2003: The 1st Brigade Combat Team began deploying its main body. Initially attached to the 82nd Airborne Division, the brigade occupied Area of Operations Topeka and conducted Transition of Authority with the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, on Sept. 26. On March 20, 2004, CJTF-7 attached 1st Brigade to the 1st Marine Division to continue its offensive operations in AO Topeka.

Big Red One TBT: Aug. 26, 2010: First Sergeant Robert Simmons, a flight medic and company first sergeant with a Forward Support Medical Team, Company C, 2nd General Support Aviation Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, observes the area as a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter used for medical evacuation starts up in his background prior to a flight training mission, at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, near Tikrit, Iraq. The helicopter, belonging to a forward support medical evacuation team in Charlie Co., is used specifically for medical evacuations for Soldiers, civilians and Iraqi residents in the United States Division-North region.
