Movie Producer Jay Shapiro and Mother Dawn Eve Celebrate Anthony Haden-Guest’s 89th Birthday in Manhattan’s Lower East Side
New York City, NY – February 2, 2026 — Movie producer Jay Shapiro and his mother, former fashion model Dawn Eve, returned to Manhattan this week to attend the 89th birthday celebration of legendary writer, art critic, and nightlife historian Anthony Haden-Guest.
The milestone event was held on Anthony’s actual birthday at the iconic Lower East Side venue Baker Falls, where guests arrived beginning at 7:00 p.m. and danced into the early morning hours, capturing the glamorous, anything-goes spirit reminiscent of New York’s legendary nightlife era at Studio 54.
Haden-Guest, celebrated for chronicling New York’s art, fashion, and cultural scenes for decades — including his famed book The Last Party: Studio 54 — was in high spirits throughout the evening, enjoying red wine, lively conversation, and nonstop dancing alongside friends from the worlds of art, media, comedy, and film.
Shapiro, currently producing the upcoming motion picture My Buddy from Brooklyn, flew Dawn Eve in from Minnesota for the occasion as a personal tribute to her modeling years in New York. Dawn was one of the models who worked alongside legendary horse trainer Buddy Jacobson and supermodel Melanie Cain, making the night a meaningful return to the city where much of her fashion career unfolded.
Adding a serendipitous connection, Jay and Dawn had just returned from Peru prior to the celebration — only to discover that Baker Falls’ manager and owner is also Peruvian. Conversations are already underway about a potential future movie-related celebration at the venue tied to the film’s release.
Notable attendees included Anthony Haden-Guest, Blake Sandberg, comedian Ronnie Norpel, Julie Harvey, Karen Nielsen, Leslie Laurence, nightlife legend Dustin “Pop” Pittman, acclaimed actor and filmmaker Christopher Guest, along with Dawn Eve, producer Jay Shapiro, and a vibrant mix of artists, creatives, and New York socialites soon to be featured in upcoming magazine photo spreads.
The evening stood as a joyful tribute to one of New York’s great cultural storytellers — proving that at 89, Anthony Haden-Guest remains as energetic, influential, and captivating as ever.
