The long days grow shorter, the sun’s intense blaze lessening as the winds of change begin to stir. The desire to sip on something pumpkiny blossoms yet, we’re not ready to let summer go yet. And so, join us as we honor:

The classic, the cherished, THE most requested drink to return this year. The Banana Pudding iced latte gets you set up with a delightfully smooth brown sugar iced latte topped with INSANE banana cold foam giving you a drink so good you’ll threaten me if we don’t bring it back (and that’s actually happened!).

🎶 IF YOU LIKE PINA COLATTES, THEN THIS DANG DRINK IS INSANE. 🎶 Toasted coconut, pineapple, espresso and milk join together to bring you a drinking experience that ALMOST puts you on the beach of your dreams.

CANDIED PECAN LATTE
The most fall of summer’s end drinks that we can roll out for you, the Candied Pecan Latte is an homage to the torrent of pecans that are to begin their fall to the earth soon. If you’ve ever wanted to be a lil squirrel enjoying a pecan treat, we got you covered.

We are super excited to be rolling out two new TEAFRESHERS this year, in what will be an exciting new addition to our lineup, perfect for those of you craving something over than coffee for your afternoon pick me up!

The FAIRY BLUSH
Pushing into our whimsy a bit, the Fairy Blush is a sparkly hibiscus party with a pineapple and cherry crescendo. With an enchantment of Moxie for some energy, this is a sweet, sippable and oh so unforgettable drink.

The SPELLBOUND

It's easy to discount the value of reading given that we are "reading" every day. Texts, posts (hey howdy this one), emails, etc. These are the words of productivity, communication and explanation though. They don't compare to partaking in the imaginative, the historical, the philosophical.

I have read with my children since they were lil' peas. Even now, our youngest will continuously bring us books, sit in our lap and let us read to him. There is something unmistakably magical about cracking open a book and reading to your children. To sit and read in a quiet place is to know true peace, if only for a moment. Little Free Libraries have been the strangest, most fortuitous blessings for me.

There were many a days when, in the pursuit of keeping this beautiful dream of mine alive, I had nary a nickel to spend. Purchasing books to read to my children was the thing of fantasy. Until the day I discovered the network of Little Free Libraries. Taking my children to pop these open and discover new worlds became this avenue of hope, a promise that things would be okay one day.

We've got more books than we can read now (though with 8 of us in the house I think we're going to get close), but I can't think of a better way to utilize this avenue of our inventory than to support a program that made the future seem a little more bright.

You've gotta post consistently to stay in people's algorithms.

Make sure you're only posting authentically though, because otherwise you're just posting slop.

Make sure there's a person or two in your photo or it won't perform well.

Whoops, you posted people two posts in a row and now you're going to get pushed back on people's feeds a bit.

Make sure you use the AI tools provided on the platform otherwise you can't keep up.

Ah man, people realize you're using AI so now you gotta get boycotted for a bit...

My favorite part about "marketing" is that you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. When we started in 2019, the rules were actually relatively clear. You post, post consistently, engage with your audience, do some lives and BOOM. Relevance. Audience. Engagement. Then the reel came into existence and suddenly if you didn't post reels, you were ERM...IRRELEVANT. Now? Man, idk what to tell you.

This is quite literally the most precarious part of business. I can navigate economic turmoil, supply disruptions, heck, I'd say I feel more confident about navigating a world where coffee is made illegal (don't even think about it) than posting on socials. The rules are malleable and inconsistent, and where one day you're praised for having an opinion, the next you're crucified for not conforming to the zeitgeist.

You gotta show up. But you gotta show up the right way...or else. What is the right way? Ehhhh....it changes so check back in in a few hours...maybe half an hour.

If you're out here bashing your head against a keyboard, running ideas through an LLM while feeling immeasurably guilty and inadequate, you aren't alone. You may not get the engagement you want, but you are being seen and you are doing a great job. Keep your chin up and stay true to yourself. At least...as long as that's what the people want 😏

WARNING: The following post is NOT meant to promote a doomer attitude. It is the culmination of observations for the past several years, the last year more than others. My hope is that you walk away with a slightly more open perspective to the small business culture that is fighting to survive around you.

It's a story we've unfortunately seen way too much recently. That passionate young entrepreneur who you've followed and supported throughout their journey starts to post a little less. You see them less and less, and find you're popping into their shop even less than you used to. Eventually you see them show up on social media again except, it's to announce the soul crushing end of their journey. The posts start with "Despite our best efforts..." or "Well, I did everything I could..." and then over the course of four paragraphs, they eulogize the death of that chapter of their life.

With that, the dream is ended. Maybe it'll have a rebirth in a few years, maybe a lucky break, but for the most part, it's over. The entrepreneur gave it all they could and finally had no more left to give. It shatters my heart to see the glimmering starlight of dreams extinguished by a triumvirate of economic, political and social events that are so far outside of the reach of the average person that they can only read headlines and wait for shockwaves.

Finance is a zero-sum game. A dollar you spend is a dollar you don't have and the consumer decisions you make etch out the avenue of financial transfer in your community. Small business is built upon the most precarious of pillars, with each day of business being a balancing act. The good seasons fuel the growth to survive the bad seasons, but what is left to do when the good seasons grow shorter and the bad seasons loom on almost endlessly?

A cascade failure occurs when a core pillar of infrastructure fails. It could be a major bank, a core transmission line, or cloudflare (for the fifteenth time this year), but when it goes down, it takes an unfathomable amount of things down with it. The transmission line to the water treatment facility is compromised, the quantity of water treated is impacted, water shortages are implemented, the thirsty fields being baked by the summer sun cannot get the water they need, there is a crop shortage...

When a small business fails, there is a cascade of consequences beyond the fact that you have to find somewhere else to get your specific products. There are reverberations in their life, in the lives they support, in the vendors and friends they financially support. Your friend who has to shutter their business doesn't typically wake up and have all of their problems solved. They have merely exhausted a tool in their toolkit, with the problem still raging against them.

What can stop the cascade? It's beyond a simple business owner. It's beyond us. The water is rising whether you want to be honest about it or not, and all we can do is link arms and fight together. The choice to support a small business is a choice to support your neighbor, your community, in the fight against the rising tide.

I highly encourage you to check out Sherman's Moonlight Markets (the second and fourth Friday of each month, 6:00p-9:00p), as well as frequenting the Downtown Denison Farmers Market and Sherman Farmers market. Attend the various festivals. Spend some time downtown. Wander, browse, buy, encourage. There is no reverting the cascade once it's begun, only halting and preventing. Together, we can keep our communities afloat until better days come.

The barista calls your name, slides your drink across the bar and...wait, did he call your name? Did you order it hot? Maybe it was iced...no you said today it would be hot. And you're currently the only person waiting for your drink so it...it has to be yours, right?

We've all had this moment before. Of course you reach for it, so sure it's yours, and a doordasher materializes from the 5th dimension and grabs it just as the barista actually rolls your drink out to you. Shoulda trusted your gut.

No matter what coffee shop it is, no matter how large or how small, there are some experiences when ordering that are simply universal.

Yep I have literally been making them for a decade (across all the various coffee shops lol). It's always enjoyable to see what new trends get popularized courtesy of the big guys. Coffee is insanely dynamic and TASTY, and it would be a real shame for people to never get to try something new and titillating once in a while!

Once upon a time I, craft coffee purist Benjamin Hernandez, worked at Starbucks. I was a pretty...uh, basic boy. Like the shift drink was going to be a frappuccino type of basic. Like the shift drink that was a frappuccino was most definitely going to be a vanilla bean frap with extra vanilla bean powder type deal. Ugh, let me process my shame for a second...

Okay. Processed. One day this super cool finance bro driving a jag came into the store I worked at and ordered a sugar free vanilla iced green tea latte (what we all call 'matcha" now) SHAKEN. I made it for him, watched him sip it knowing he probably made $3,784 in the time it took me to make it, and he strolled out. I said "I gotta drink this elixir of wealth and power", and I made myself one.

And it. was...meh.

Nothing special. Years passed and I left matcha in that memory, and in that starbucks. Until we rolled out our strawberry syrup many years ago and I couldn't resist the urge to try the very treasure I served my customers. I prepped it, steamed my matcha and milk, poured it and.......

it. was. GLORIOUS.

I have been a fervent and proud matcha man ever since (when the black coffee needs a break).

My favorite parts of coffee (and tea) are the stories that bind people to (and against) certain drinks. What's your matcha story? What's a powerful memory (either good or not so good) that compels or repels you from certain drinks?

One of the trickiest parts of this biz is that ideas, even ones we think are great and yummy, sometimes just fall flat.

Who knows why things don't work out! Maybe we were trying to do too much or maybe we were just ahead of our time 😏

Whether it be the cereal milk lattes of old or the avocado toast of just last year, what has been an offering that came and went that you find yourself seriously missing?

For me? The cereal milk lattes are phantoms in my dreams, calling out to me. There was just something so dang satisfying about them...
