🍺 HANSA BREWERY’S OHIO CITY PROPERTY IS FOR SALE
Ohio City’s landscape is shifting again — and this time it involves one of Cleveland’s most distinctive brewery properties.
Hansa Brewery & Restaurant at 2717 Lorain Avenue is officially on the market for $2.5 million — including the brewing infrastructure inside.
And this isn’t simply an empty commercial building looking for its next tenant.
The real-estate listing markets the approximately 8,800-square-foot property as a fully built-out restaurant and brewery facility, referencing the existing commercial kitchen, brewing equipment, walk-in coolers and bar infrastructure. The listing also indicates that a liquor license may be available for transfer.
Which naturally raises a pretty big question:
What does the sale of the property mean for Hansa Brewery?
For now, we don’t know.
And there’s an important distinction here:
⚠️ Hansa Brewery has NOT announced that it is closing.
As of this writing, Hansa continues to advertise normal operating hours and appears to be operating as usual; in fact just yesterday they posted their full current impressive draft of their house made German style ales.
The Lorain Avenue property has actually been on the market for several months, meaning this does not appear to be a sudden development.
But an operating brewery property — brewing infrastructure and all — being offered for sale in the heart of Ohio City certainly caught our attention during one of our regular searches for under-the-radar Northeast Ohio craft beverage developments.
And Hansa’s story in the neighborhood goes back considerably further than the brewery itself.
Owner Boris Music opened Hansa Import Haus in Ohio City decades before eventually transforming the business into Hansa Brewery, adding an on-site brewery to the European market and restaurant concept.
Today, Hansa occupies a particularly interesting place in Cleveland’s beer landscape: part brewery, part Eastern European restaurant, and part survivor of an Ohio City neighborhood that has changed dramatically around it.
So naturally, we wanted to know what comes next.
NEOCBN reached out to Hansa Brewery and Boris Music by email and social media seeking additional context about the property listing and what a potential sale could mean for the brewery. We had not received a response as of publication.
We’ll update this story if Hansa provides additional information.
For now, the facts are considerably simpler than the speculation:
🏢 The Hansa Brewery property is for sale.
đź’° Asking price: $2.5 million.
🍺 The brewery remains open.
❓ What a potential property sale means for Hansa’s long-term future remains unclear.
And that last question is the one we’re trying to answer.
