Hello, Kindred! How are you all doing? We hope that you are all settling into your fall routines. Kids back in school, weekend football, chillier mornings, sun coming up later. It's FALL, y'all! And while we aren't QUITE ready to bust out the full on fall dishes, we are moving in that direction! Thus, we give you....

SPECIALS: 10.3-10.9

Pork cutlet, 2 ways: So, we took some pork tenderloin, pounded it out, and fried it, Iowa Skinny style! Think chicken fried steak, but with a pork filet mignon. We are serving it as a hash, over house browns with two eggs and toast, or on a sandwich. BUT HERE'S THE THING...Chef Cory has done it AGAIN, combining textures and flavors to accent the dish! This week, it's an Apple and Pear chutney laced with Gochujang and Mirin! It is just a flavor EXPLOSION! So that goes on the cutlet, and then, for the hash, it gets eggs and toast, but we are also doing it as a sandwich on a griddled Telera roll topped with the chutney, thin sliced onions, lettuce, and tomato. Either way, these are flavors that all pair up beautifully! Come give this a try. $19, Either way.

Early Fall Omelette: Roasted Butternut and Acorn squash in a three egg omelette with bacon and melted havarti cheese. Sweet, savory, smoky, creamy, this one has it ALL! With house browns or fruit and toast. $16

C***r Punch: A blend of Honeycrisp c***r, cranberry juice, and orange juice, topped up with Ginger Ale! Super refreshing! $7

Come on in here and get with the Autumn vibes! We can't wait to see you!

09/24/2026

Hey, my beloved legion!

Cory and I are SUPER excited to bring you some deliciousness for the first official week of fall, so I thought that I'd give you all a little jump in the weekend. It's FALL, Y'ALL! We are about to start cooking all that super good comfort stuff for you to snuggle up to, but FIRST, we get the glory of the harvest season! As always, we are trying to cook with the peak of the season and bring you the stone cold deliciousness! Ergo, A DAY EARLY, we give you....

SPECIALS, 9.26-10.3

Up first, a seasonal transitional dish that has been MUCH beloved...

Bulgogi Hash and Sandwich: Korean style marinated beef, nice and balanced between sweet and savory, served as a hash with house browns, two eggs, and toast or fruit, or as (And my bias is FULLY ON DISPLAY HERE) a brilliant sandwich! Think Philly Cheesesteak with Korean flavors, but then amped up with a totally unique sandwich spread from the devastating mind of Chef Cory, an Asian style slaw, all on a Telera roll with chips or house browns. Look, it's all good. The hash is awesome. The sandwich will CHANGE YOU! Come get this goodness! Either one, $20.

First Blush Of Fall Stuff: IT'S NOT PUMPKIN SPICE YET! First up in the harvest is APPLES! ERGO, we making some apple stuff! Our golden pancakes or our wildly delicious French toast, topped with a custom made blend of apples and spices and a hit of classic streusel topping. Sweetness, texture, seasonality, we bring it all. IT'S NOT TIME FOR PUMPKIN SPICE YET! Stay with us! Obey the seasons! Pancakes, $15, French Toast $16.

Lychee Lemonade: We actually got around to making this beverage, and it is absolutely awesome. Let it be the last, most romantic taste of summer as we move into the long, cold seasons to come. $7

09/18/2026

All RIGHT, everybody! We continue to fix up the shop so that we can be here for another 70 years (Even though a lot of times it feels like we work in the Milennium Falcon. Chewie! Fix the stupid Hyperdrive!) We think we have the plumbing situation momentarily under control! And we are slowly edging into the cooler weather of FALL, which is just SO GREAT as far as the stuff we get to cook for you all! So, as promised, here are the REALLY cool....

SPECIALS, 9.19-9.25

Creole Jambalaya: An iconic New Orlenean dish, it is made Creole rather than Cajun by the inclusion of tomato. Ours is chicken, smoked sausage, and BIG old shrimp simmered nice and slow in a tomato and chicken stock broth with the classic trinity, all kinds of seasonings, basmati rice, and green onions. You thought the Gumbo was something? Come get some of this! Served with a side of Maque Choux for good measure. It's like a really advanced creamed corn. Trust us. This is a dish over which you will never get. $19

Elotecakes: You guys, we are pretty sure this dish is entirely novel. We are taking our Buddycake mix and enhancing it with fire roasted corn kernels, and then serving those golden griddle cakes topped with a lime laced mayo, Tajin seasoning, and Cotija Cheese. Basically, we have made the classic Steet Food Elotes into a pancake. And they. Are. AMAZING! $14 for the big ones, $8 for a side. And NO, you can't just add them to your hash! They're special!

Lychee Lemonade: We are reprising the most unexpectedly delicious lemonade of the summer for the last official week. It's flowery and sweet and delicious! $7

We have a VERY exciting couple of weeks upcoming with the release of our new menu, and you KNOW we are going to be bringing the heat as we move into Fall (Officially, it starts Tuesday!). We can't wait to see you and feed you and show you all the love! Come on HOME to us, now!

09/17/2026

Guys, we are going to have to close today as we FINALLY get our plumbing issues fixed once and for all. Thank you so much for your patience.

09/14/2026

Okay, everybody, you KNOW I don't like to clutter up your feeds, but Cory and I have some STONE COLD VOODOO for you guys this week!

Keep your eyes peeled for this weeks specials! I promise you, we have one dish full of deep, deep comfort for you, and one that is, as far as we can determine, completely novel! I would tell you all about it, but we are still working on the recipe! Trust us, though, it's gonna be EPIC!

09/11/2026

Yo, yo, yo! Our people! How you be?

Cory and I were talking yesterday, and we feel like we are in a weird culinary place. Like, it's TECHNICALLY fall, but it still FEELS like summer. We are chomping at the bit to start making these delicious fall dishes! Braises. Stews. Super duper comfort foods. Stuff with apples, and cabbage, and all that good fall stuff! We both agree that we are SICK of summer grilled stuff! And yet, this weather won't let us do what we yearn to do. We need it to be a little cooler. We need it to be hoodie weather! So we are trying to bridge the gap this week with dishes that use the brilliant produce of the season, and that still reflect the sunny seasonings of Summer, but that have an eye on the comfort of fall. Ergo, we give you.....

SPECIALS: 9.12-9.18

Just A Big Ass Breakfast Burrito: When you want an all seasons cuisine, you don't have to go much further than our brothers and sisters to the south! We honor them with a burrito stuffed with your choice of meat, scrambled eggs, and home made refried beans, all wrapped in a flour tortilla and given the "Suiza" treatment with home made Salsa Verde and melted cheese. Oh, just so you know, we are featuring Chorizo made by the LEGENDARY Chris Burrell on this one. Custom made pork Chorizo, with the rarified touch of the Cranky Chef himself. Trust me, y'all really want this! Served with House Browns or Fruit. $18

A Stupid Ass Combo: Okay, so this one starts with our homies from Edgebrook Acres. They came through last weekend and hipped us to a grilled cheese made with fresh mozzarella and MINT! SLOW DOWN! I KNOW IT SOUNDS CRAZY! Except that mint is used as a savory herb all over the Mediterannean, from Greece to Egypt! So we banged this up. Grilled cheese with fresh mozzarella and fresh mint, on sourdough bread, grilled off in duck fat, served with a roasted tomato soup. Fresh herbs? Check. Summer Tomatoes? Check. Balance between Summer and Fall? CHECK! I swear to you, this is gonna break your palate. $16

POGanade: POG (Pineapple, Orange, Guava) juice? Delicious. Lemonade? Delicious. Blend them together? We shall see. My money is on a logarithmic arc towards total deliciousness. See if I'm wrong. $7

You guys, we have SO MUCH cool stuff coming up! A major menu revision! A takeaway dinner for our dear friends Andy and Jeremy! Our 70TH anniversary starting next year! And, as always, every ounce of creativity that we can bend in service to you. We are grateful to.you, we love you, and we are here to make you happy. Please, come let us do our jobs. Legio Patria Nostra.

08/29/2026

THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE! THIS IS WHAT WE ARE FIGHTING AGAINST! I will NEVER serve my legions that goddamn nonsense! NEVER! Our resistance is why we cost a little more, but I'd like to believe that having REAL cooks use their skill and creativity to make your food is more than worth it! If you want the lowest cost breakfast, g'head on. Go to Sanders, or Yellow Rose. They do a good job. But if you want REAL food, sourced from REAL PEOPLE (, we see you), prepared by people who work hard to get better as cooks EVERY DAY, then you come to us. REAL recognize real. Game recognize game. It is our imperfection that GUARANTEES you are getting the stone cold honest truth! Please watch this video, and understand that where you choose to eat is a revolutionary act!

Well, hey, everybody!

First, THANKS AGAIN for making our Fundraiser for Jeremy a big success! Your support means the world to them and to us! You all showed out, and as a result, this community raised $1400 to help defray their MANY expenses! We will be doing a Fried Chicken Takeaway dinner for them I a few weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

And because y'all hit me in my very soul, had me all choked up all week we just HAD to come STRONG with this stuff to reward you for your excellence! I give you…

SPECIALS, 8.22-8.28:

Soul Food Extravaganza!

SOUL BOWL PLATTER: This one takes some explaining. To begin, you are going to get either Missisippi Pot Roast (the tangy gravy infused with ranch seasonings alone is worth it), Braised Turkey in a Creole Gravy, or the BBQ Brisket Burnt Ends (because apparently, you guys REALLY LIKED THEM), served over a scoop of corn pudding. Corn Pudding is part cornbread, part soufflé, and ALL delicious, and once you try it you will want it in your life forever. THEN, you get a side of baked to order, super creamy Mac and Cheese, and a side of our legendary collard greens. A real southern style Meat-And-Three plate, scratch made, for $20.

Blackberry Cobbler Pancakes: Again, since you all went crazy for the peach version, we thought we’d use the best berries of summer for this Mashup. Home made Blackberry Compote topped with streusel topping and a vanilla glaze. Goes JUST PERFECT with Soul Food! $14

Cherry Kool Aid: You know that you can’t eat this kind of stuff without a glass of Kool Aid! Do NOT mock, or that scary pitcher dude will bust through your wall! He is NOT playing! You sooooo want it! $4

Our dear Legionnaire Dakota has had a tooth out, so send her healing vibes. We deliberately made stuff that she would be able to chew!

Also, it is the Born Day of my beloved Tasneem on Tuesday, or, as we call it, Tasneemadan. Pop on over to our Insta page and send her your well wishes. My baby, I love you all, forever, in a circle.

This stuff is REALLY GOOD! Come eat it!
