Today has been one of the hardest days we’ve had in recent years at Toasted Walnut.

With the ongoing power outages in downtown Celina, we were faced with a heartbreaking decision. We had to throw away several thousand dollars worth of fresh, refrigerated food.

Food that was made with care.
Food that looked perfectly good.
Food we know people would have loved.

But at the end of the day, our responsibility is to keep our customers safe, even when it hurts.

As a business built on fresh, made-daily items (never frozen), this hit us especially hard. Today, we were forced to remain closed because we simply had nothing to serve…other than French fries and okra which thankfully were still safe in our small freezer. (We’ll let those be our small exceptions! 😉)

What makes this even heavier is knowing there are people in our community and around the world who would give anything for that food. Throwing it away goes against every grain in our being and everything in our hearts. 😭 But risking someone’s health would cost far more than food. It would cost trust, safety, and the livelihood we’ve worked so hard to build.

We have a new order arriving in the morning, but it will take our great team time to prep everything fresh again. At this point, we are unsure what time we’ll be able to reopen tomorrow.

We ask for your patience, your understanding, and especially your prayers, not just for us, but for all of the small businesses in Celina who have been gravely impacted by today’s outage…not just by food waste but lost revenue from closures! Today has been emotional, exhausting, and incredibly difficult for so many business owners in our community.

We love Celina deeply, and we will be back as soon as we possibly can.

We are incredibly disappointed to share that Toasted Walnut is closed today due to yet another Oncor power outage…the 17th outage in the past 15 months.

Seventeen.

This ongoing issue is not just an inconvenience; it has had a serious impact on our small business, our team, and our ability to serve this amazing community. Each outage results in lost revenue, product waste, and disruption for both our staff and our guests as well as all the other small businesses here. ☹️

We love being part of downtown Celina and showing up for you every day, but situations like this make it incredibly challenging. It’s NOT the city; it’s Oncor!

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your continued support, patience, and understanding more than we can say. We will reopen as soon as Oncor restores the power. It’s been off 8.5 hours and counting.
